
Sr. IT Automation Engineer
Role summary
We are seeking a Senior IT Automation Engineer to lead automation initiatives and transform IT operations. This role involves architecting and implementing comprehensive automation solutions across hybrid infrastructure, including Windows servers, Active Directory, Azure/AWS, and Microsoft 365. Key responsibilities include designing automation frameworks, managing infrastructure, leading global projects, and developing analytics dashboards to measure effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have advanced proficiency in automation technologies like PowerShell and Azure Automation, deep understanding of Active Directory and Microsoft 365, strong scripting skills, and experience with cloud platforms and virtualization. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 8 years in IT systems engineering are required. The role also includes participation in an on-call schedule.

We're seeking an exceptional Senior IT Automation Engineer to lead our automation initiatives and transform our IT operations through innovative technological solutions. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking to drive automation excellence across our global IT infrastructure.
You will architect and implement comprehensive automation solutions across our hybrid infrastructure, focusing on Windows servers, Active Directory, cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), Microsoft 365 ecosystem, and MDM solutions. Your expertise will drive operational efficiency through automation, while ensuring seamless integration across our entire IT stack.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Architecture & Development
- Design and deploy cross-system automation solutions leveraging Azure Automation, PowerShell, Power Automate, Freshworks, Workato, and Postman
- Develop scalable automation frameworks for user/machine provisioning and software deployment
- Create self-service solutions for IT service requests and workflows
- Build and integrate chat auto-agents with SaaS applications (Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
- Design automation workflows for hybrid cloud and on-premises environments
Infrastructure Management
- Administer Active Directory infrastructure including DNS and GPO management in multi-site environments
- Manage Windows Server infrastructure (2016, 2019, 2022+) focusing on capacity and performance optimization
- Ensure seamless integration of Azure, O365, Entra, Intune, Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint services
- Optimize O365 cross-tenant functions and health monitoring
- Maintain enterprise-grade virtualization environments (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Oversee NAS/SAN storage infrastructure
Project Leadership & Innovation
- Lead global IT automation projects focusing on operational efficiency improvements
- Assess business requirements and evaluate software stacks for scalable solutions
- Develop analytics dashboards to measure automation effectiveness
- Drive innovation in IT automation to enhance service delivery and scalability
- Create comprehensive documentation and operational procedures
Requirements
- Advanced proficiency in automation technologies (PowerShell, Power Automate, Azure Automation)
- Deep understanding of Active Directory architecture and administration
- Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Batch, Python)
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Entra, Intune, Azure AD)
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
- Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V) and storage solutions (NAS/SAN)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in corporate IT systems engineering
- Proven track record in automation implementation and global-scale transformations
- Experience with enterprise-level IT operations and support
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong problem-solving abilities under pressure
- Proven project leadership skills in fast-paced environments
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in global teams
- Customer-focused mindset with proactive approach to challenges
Service Availability & On-Call Responsibilities
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage of critical systems
- Respond promptly to urgent technical issues outside regular business hours, including weekends and holidays
- Maintain high availability and immediate response capabilities for critical system incidents
- Adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic IT environment
- Contribute to continuous service improvement through after-hours deployment activities
Annual base salary for this role in California, US is expected to be between $120,000 - $155,000. Actual pay will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant skills and experience, and the pay of employees in the similar role.
