Who You’ll Join:

Join an NYC startup building the “Plaid for insurance” a universal API that unlocks insurance as a core financial data primitive for companies like Hertz, Avis, and Audi. Axle powers mission-critical insurance data extraction, validation, and verification so decisions that once took hours of phone calls and paperwork now happen in seconds.

With funding from Gradient Ventures (Google’s AI fund), Y Combinator, Soma Capital, Contrary, Rebel Fund, BLH Ventures, and angels from Plaid and Cox Automotive, the company is growing ARR 5x year-over-year to multiple millions and is embedded in flows at Fortune 500 banks and leading brands. You will join a 20-person team in Flatiron/NoMad at the stage where technical decisions still shape the platform and category.

What You’ll Do:

• Build and maintain durable, scalable systems capable of processing millions of data transactions per month.
• Define API-driven interfaces that make the data platform turn-key for a wide range of customer applications.
• Design and implement AI-led techniques to improve the accuracy and reliability of insurance data integrations.
• Take on the hardest technical challenges, from reaching 99.9% accuracy in inference-based data transformation to building highly reliable browser agents for new data access.
• Mentor and pair with junior and senior engineers, helping cultivate a collaborative, high-bar engineering culture.
• Work directly with the CTO and founding team to own large product and platform areas and help build out the broader engineering organization.
• Partner with product and go-to-market teams to solve real-world customer problems where errors have direct consequences (denied lending, compliance status changes, etc.).

Who You Are:

• 6+ years of experience as a full stack or backend engineer, including leading projects or teams at venture-backed startups.
• Strong experience designing, scaling, and operating backend and data systems in B2B software or fintech environments.
• Comfortable staying hands-on in the code while providing technical leadership and direction.
• Creative problem-solver who cares about real-world customer impact, not theory alone, and keeps up with modern AI approaches.
• Excited by messy, high-variability data and building systems that standardize and integrate it at scale.
• Bonus: experience with AI/ML-powered data extraction, browser-based agents, or financial/insurance data pipelines.
