What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and deploy real-time and offline machine learning models operating on large- scale, high-frequency time-series data sourced from aircraft and flight simulators.
  • Build upon and extend PACE Canada's patent-pending analytics platform extracting objective metrics of pilot proficiency and competency from complex data streams.
  • Own advanced data preprocessing pipelines for structured and unstructured data, ensuring data quality, integrity, and suitability for safety-critical model deployment.
  • Develop and evaluate predictive models, including time-series methods, neural networks, and other machine-learning approaches, with a strong emphasis on robustness, interpretability, and operational relevance.
  • Provide technical leadership across multi-disciplinary teams, mentoring other data scientists and collaborating closely with data engineering, software, and product teams on complex initiatives.
  • Translate analytical insights into actionable recommendations that inform product strategy, training effectiveness, and business decisions.
  • Communicate complex technical results clearly through data visualisation, written reports, and stakeholder presentations, supporting both internal leadership and external partners.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven aviation experience and a strong grasp of flight principles, obtained through formal aerospace education or practical piloting experience, along with a demonstrated interest in aviation, aerospace, or defence and clear motivation to work on systems with real-world safety and operational impact.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Data Scientist or technical lead, with demonstrated ownership of complex machine-learning projects delivered end-to-end.
  • Strong background in data mining, time-series analysis, and machine-learning techniques, including neural networks and statistical modelling.
  • Hands-on experience with transformer-based large language models (LLMs), including the design, fine-tuning, evaluation, and deployment of generative models for real-world applications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or integrating agentic AI systems, including LLM driven agents for reasoning, decision support, workflow orchestration, or human-in-the loop systems.
  • Practical knowledge of LLM tooling and ecosystems, such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), model evaluation, and inference optimisation in production environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and relevant scientific/ML libraries, with strong working knowledge of SQL; experience with C++ or JavaScript is a plus.
  • Solid foundation in mathematics and statistics (e.g., probability, linear algebra, statistical inference).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership through mentoring, cross-team collaboration, or ownership of critical technical decisions.

Why you'll love working with us:

  • Be part of a mission-driven team advancing aviation safety, training effectiveness, and long-term sustainability through applied AI.
  • Work on unique, real-world datasets from aircraft and simulators, tackling problems where data science has direct human and operational impact.
  • Enjoy competitive compensation, including base salary and performance-based bonuses.
  • Benefit from a remote-friendly culture, with hybrid office access in Montréal.
  • Receive a comprehensive benefits package including extended medical, dental, life insurance, and employer-matched pension contributions up to 5% of base salary.
  • Access ongoing training, professional development, and travel opportunities as part of a growing global organisation.
