The opportunity

Paladin Canada is seeking an
Mechanical Design Lead
to oversee the mechanical design team in the development, implementation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment used in our mining operations. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, project management, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience in the mining industry and a proven track record of delivering high-quality mechanical designs.

Reporting to the Engineering Project Manager, the Mechanical Design Lead will be based in our Saskatoon head office. You will have the opportunity to showcase your skills and expertise as we advance PLS which is one of the most significant undeveloped uranium resources in the world.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in the mining industry is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other design tools.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

You’ll be part of a team that is dedicated, focused, collaborative and determined to develop the PLS Project in the right way for the benefit of Canada, the community and the company.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the mechanical design team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
  • Develop and oversee the design of mechanical systems and equipment for mining operations, including conveyors, crushers, pumps, and ventilation systems.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost analyses for new projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Review and approve technical drawings, specifications, and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design issues during the construction and commissioning phases.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in mechanical engineering and mining technologies.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the design team.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
