Role summary
Paratus Health is seeking a Founding Engineer to help build and scale their AI-powered operations layer for outpatient clinics. This early technical leader will own critical parts of the stack, including AI voice agents, backend infrastructure, and EHR integrations. The role requires 2-4 years of experience in fast-paced startups, proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS, with a preference for LLM experience. The position offers significant ownership, product impact, and a fast-paced, hybrid work environment in Menlo Park.
Paratus Health is building the AI-powered operations layer for outpatient clinics: agents that handle calls, intake, insurance, and documentation, fully integrated with EHRs like Epic and Athena.
We’re backed by Y Combinator and investors behind GitHub, Notion, and Vanta. We’re already live in hospitals (including Stanford), saving 8+ minutes per patient interaction and earning 90%+ satisfaction. Now, we’re scaling.
### **🔧 The Role**
We’re looking for a **Founding Engineer** to help us architect and scale the future of healthcare automation. You'll be an early technical leader, working closely with the founders to ship products end-to-end, from AI voice agents to insurance verification and EHR integrations.
This is not just a job, it’s a chance to build something meaningful from the ground up.
### **What you’ll do**
* Own critical parts of the stack: AI voice agents, backend infra, EHR integrations
* Build and ship fast - LLMs, pipelines, real-time systems
* Work directly with clinics to prototype and launch
* Set engineering direction and technical standards
* Contribute to a high-trust, high-speed team culture
### **You might be a fit if you**
* Have 2–4 years of experience in fast-paced startups, preferably ex-YC companies
* Are a backend-leaning engineer
* Know TypeScript, Node.js, AWS, and ideally LLMs (RAG + finetuning)
* Can thrive in ambiguity and build 0→1
* Bonus: experience with healthtech, EHRs, or voice/audio agents
### **Why Join Us**
* **Ownership**: Meaningful equity and first engineer outside the founders
* **Product impact**: Your work directly improves clinical outcomes
* **Fast feedback loop**: You’ll ship to live clinics in week 1
* **In-person team**: Hybrid setup at Menlo Park HQ (101 Jefferson Dr)
* **Support**: DoorDash credits, L&D budget, flexible hours
* **Speed**: Our hiring process wraps in 5–7 days
### **Hiring Process**
1. **Intro Call (30 min):** A casual conversation with our CEO to learn about your background, what excites you, and why this opportunity resonates.
2. **Technical Screen (30 min):** Deep dive with our CTO into your problem-solving skills and technical thinking. May include live coding, system design, or discussing past projects.
3. **Take-home Assessment (4-6 hours, paid)**
4. **Founder Fit + Vision Alignment (1 hour, in-person):** Final chat to ensure alignment on values, working style, and long-term vision. You'll meet both founders and get a feel for the team dynamic.
