Role summary

This role is for a Business Analyst / Product Owner within a Global Investment Banking Technology group at a major Canadian bank. The individual will be responsible for the full product delivery lifecycle, acting as the liaison between front-office business stakeholders and engineering teams. Key responsibilities include gathering and challenging requirements, translating them into user stories and specifications, managing the product backlog, coordinating agile ceremonies, conducting UAT, and demoing solutions. The ideal candidate must have 5+ years of experience in capital markets or investment banking technology, a strong understanding of capital markets, and demonstrated end-to-end delivery experience. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential.

About the Team

Our client is a major Canadian bank with a leading Global Investment Banking franchise. Their Banking & Data Analytics Technology group builds and manages the internal platforms that power the GIB division — supporting deal lifecycle management, relationship data, coverage workflows, and analytics tooling used daily by front-office banking teams. This is a high-visibility, business-facing technology team operating at the intersection of investment banking and product delivery.

The Role

We are looking for a Business Analyst / Product Owner who can own the full product delivery lifecycle — from sitting with business stakeholders to gather and challenge requirements, through to working with engineering teams to build, test, and demo the solution. This is not a documentation-only role. You will be the connective tissue between the investment banking business and the technology team, and you will be expected to drive delivery with energy, curiosity, and sound judgement.

What You Will Do

  • Lead end-to-end requirements gathering — running workshops and interviews with front-office stakeholders to elicit, challenge, and document business needs
  • Translate business requirements into clear, well-structured user stories, acceptance criteria, BRDs, and functional specifications
  • Own and manage the product backlog — prioritising features in collaboration with the business and driving sprint planning with the engineering team
  • Act as the primary point of contact between investment banking users and technology delivery teams throughout the build cycle
  • Demo products and features to business stakeholders, gathering feedback and iterating accordingly
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across multiple levels — from analysts to Managing Directors — with professionalism and confidence
  • Conduct UAT, coordinate testing cycles, and ensure solutions meet business requirements before release
  • Proactively identify issues, dependencies, and risks, escalating with clear context and a recommended path forward
  • Maintain clear, consistent documentation throughout the delivery lifecycle in Confluence and JIRA

What You Bring

Essential

  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Product Owner within capital markets or investment banking technology
  • Genuine understanding of capital markets — including primary markets (debt/equity issuance, DCM, ECM) and secondary markets (trading, market making)
  • Demonstrated end-to-end delivery experience: requirements through to UAT and stakeholder demo — not just one phase
  • Strong requirements documentation skills — BRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flow diagrams
  • Agile delivery experience — backlog management, sprint ceremonies, JIRA, Confluence
  • Confident communicator: able to articulate complex technical concepts (APIs, ETL, data flows) clearly to a non-technical business audience
  • Proven ability to manage senior stakeholders and navigate competing priorities diplomatically

Strong Advantage

  • Experience supporting Global Investment Banking workflows — deal management, coverage, pitchbook, or origination platforms
  • Familiarity with relationship data systems, CRM platforms, or analytics tooling in a banking context
  • Prior experience at a major Canadian bank or global investment bank (Big 5, bulge bracket, or equivalent)

Who You Are

  • Intellectually curious — you ask the question behind the question and push to understand the 'why'
  • Articulate and structured — your verbal and written communication is clear, concise, and easy to follow
  • Business-first — you lead with commercial instinct and common sense, not technical complexity
  • A relationship builder — stakeholders trust you, engineers respect you, and you manage both with equal ease
  • A finisher — you take ownership from start to demo, not just the part that interests you
