Provenance is building the provenance, review, and collaboration layer for financial models. Financial institutions still run core workflows in Excel, but model review, approvals, and collaboration often happen across email, Slack, and manual processes. Provenance turns spreadsheet work into checkpointed, attributable, reviewable, and auditable workstreams, with deterministic diffs, approval workflows, and an Excel-native capture surface. The product is designed to improve review velocity, reduce ambiguity about what changed, and create institutional memory around financial models.
Role Description
This is a founding design role at Provenance. We are a 2-person team, and this person would own product UX from the ground up across the core workflow: checkpoint creation, review requests, approvals, history, comments, and collaboration.
Day to day, the Founding Product Designer will work closely with the founders and engineers to shape the end-to-end user experience across the web app and the Excel workflow. This includes designing core surfaces such as the Homebase dashboard, review inbox, compare and approval views, checkpoint prompts, and the Excel add-in interaction model. The role involves translating a complex finance workflow into a clean, low-noise, finance-native product experience; producing wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI; conducting user research and usability testing with early design partners; and refining the product based on usage and feedback. The designer will also help define interaction patterns, design systems, and product structure as Provenance evolves from a personal tool into an organizational workflow.

- Experience in early-stage startups or as a founding designer is a strong plus
- Experience designing collaboration, approvals, review, or inbox-style workflows is a strong plus
- Familiarity with financial workflows, Excel-heavy environments, or audit/compliance-oriented products is a plus
- Ability or interest to work closely with implementation, and ideally some front-end fluency, is a plus
- Current students or recent graduates with unusually strong work are welcome to apply
