Role summary
Seeking a GIS Data Analyst in Pittsburgh, PA, to support branch network strategy for financial institutions. This role involves combining GIS, demographic, and financial data to identify growth opportunities and optimize networks. Responsibilities include building and maintaining datasets, performing spatial analyses, and creating clear maps, dashboards, and presentations for executive decision-making. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience with GIS software and data analysis tools like Excel, SQL, Python, or R, along with strong communication skills to translate technical findings into actionable business insights. Experience in financial services or retail site selection is preferred.
We're looking for a talented GISData Analyst to join our team in our Pittsburgh, PA location. This candidate will support branch network strategy for banks and credit unions by combining GIS, demographic data and financial performance data to identify growth opportunities, optimize existing networks, and inform executive decision-making. This role will connect spatial analysis, financial analysis, and business strategy, producing clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and business development teams.
*Responsibilities:*
- Build and maintain branch, ATM, and market datasets, cleaning input files, and standardizing attributes.
- Perform analyses of geographic areas.
- Develop clear maps, dashboards, and presentations that translate technical analysis into intuitive stories for executives, lenders, and retail leadership.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (project managers, relationship managers, executives).
- Document data sources, methods, assumptions, and key metrics.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of templates, tools, workflows, and deliverables.
*Skills and Qualifications:*
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Data Analytics, Economics, Finance, Urban Planning, or related field.
- 3-5 years' experience working with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro / ArcGIS Online or QGIS) for spatial analysis, geocoding, and map production
- Strong skills in data analysis tools such as Excel (including advanced functions, pivot tables; macros a plus) and at least one of: SQL, Python, or R.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into concise, non-technical narratives and visualizations for business stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented mindset, with emphasis on data integrity, reproducibility, and clear documentation.
- Experience in retail banking, credit unions, financial services consulting, or retail site selection is preferred.
- Preferred experience building interactive dashboards (e.g., ArcGIS Dashboards, Power BI, Tableau) for internal or client-facing use.
