Role summary

M&J FL Realty LLC is seeking a contract Systems Automation Engineer to maintain and extend their custom-built CRM automation system. This remote, US-based role involves working with JavaScript, Google Apps Script, REST API integrations, Cloudflare Workers, and marketing websites. The engineer will be responsible for debugging complex workflows, tracing cross-system failures, and documenting all changes. This is an individual contributor role focused on technical execution within existing systems, not a helpdesk or development role focused on replacing the current stack. The position requires strong JavaScript fundamentals, REST API fluency, and the ability to work independently.

Systems Automation Engineer (Contract)

Real Estate Investment Company, South Florida

About Us

M&J FL Realty LLC (FL House Buyers / Qualified House Buyers) is a veteran-owned, BBB A+ accredited off-market real estate investment company buying distressed, probated, pre-foreclosure, and tax-delinquent properties across Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties. We're a small team that punches above its weight because we've built a fully automated acquisition engine. We need someone to maintain it, improve it, and build what's next.

The Role

You'll be our technical right hand, maintaining and extending a custom-built CRM automation system that drives our entire acquisition pipeline. This is not a helpdesk role. You'll work inside 12+ interconnected workflows, direct API integrations, and custom JavaScript that handles everything from direct mail campaigns to AI-powered call analysis to automated rep task management.

You report to both co-founders. Matthew is the systems architect. He built the stack and will hand you detailed technical specs. Jonathan runs operations and will bring you real-world process problems to solve. Some weeks you'll be executing precise specs with exact API endpoints and JSON payloads. Other weeks you'll get "this process is broken, figure out the best fix." We need someone who thrives in both modes.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Write and debug JavaScript inside GoHighLevel Custom Code actions (vanilla JS with platform-specific constraints, no frameworks, no npm)
  • Build and maintain Google Apps Script projects (dashboards, data pipelines, import automation)
  • Manage REST API integrations: construct requests, handle pagination, parse webhooks, and debug failed payloads across Thanks.io, Kit (ConvertKit), Quo/OpenPhone, and Google Ads
  • Deploy and update Cloudflare Workers (website hosting, middleware, proxy services)
  • Maintain a multi-page marketing website (HTML/CSS/vanilla JS)
  • Trace and fix cross-system failures. When a webhook from Service A triggers Workflow B which creates a task that alerts a rep via Workflow C, and something breaks at step 2, you find it.
  • Document everything. Every change gets logged in our Workflow Registry and Code Reference. No exceptions.

Required

  • JavaScript fundamentals. Not React/Angular/Vue. Raw JS: string manipulation, async patterns, error handling, JSON processing.
  • REST API fluency. Read API docs, construct authenticated requests, handle pagination, debug from HTTP status codes.
  • HTML/CSS to maintain and update web pages and email templates.
  • Google Apps Script (or demonstrable ability to ramp fast, it's JS with Google's SDK).
  • Webhook architecture. Event-driven systems, payload routing, retry logic.
  • Ability to read detailed specs, then flag problems before building the wrong thing.
  • Self-directed. Clear specs provided, but nobody micromanaging your hours.

Preferred

  • GoHighLevel experience (workflows, custom values, API)
  • Cloudflare Workers / Pages
  • CRM or marketing automation platform experience
  • Real estate or lead-gen industry familiarity

What We're NOT Looking For

  • Someone who wants to rip out our stack and replace it with their preferred tools. We need you to understand why it's built this way, then make it better.
  • A "Zapier expert." We use direct API integrations, not middleware platforms.
  • Someone who needs a framework or library for everything. Our constraints require vanilla solutions.
  • A pure front-end developer who's never constructed an authenticated API request.
  • Someone who builds the wrong thing quietly when a spec doesn't make sense. Push back early, save everyone time.

Skip the generic resume. Answer these three questions:

  • Describe a system you built or maintained that involved 3+ API integrations working together. What broke, and how did you fix it?
  • You receive a webhook from an external service and need to: update a CRM record, trigger an email sequence via a separate API, and log the event to a Google Sheet. Walk us through your approach, including what happens when the email API is down.
  • What's your hourly rate, and how many hours/week are you available?

*M&J FL Realty LLC is a veteran-owned, equal opportunity company. We value builders who document their work and think about what breaks next.*

Pay: $50.00 - $70.00 per hour
