Rackner is seeking a Software Engineer with an active TS/SCI clearance for a full-time, remote position in Dayton, OH. The role focuses on designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native, containerized applications for mission-critical systems supporting national defense and intelligence. Responsibilities include building microservices, implementing event-driven architectures, and contributing to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices. Required qualifications include proficiency in modern programming languages (Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript), front-end frameworks (Angular, React, Vue.js), back-end frameworks (Flask, Django, Spring Boot), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and event-driven systems (Kafka). Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, Jenkins) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) is also required.

About the Role

Rackner is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to support mission-critical systems in a secure environment. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native applications using modern software engineering practices. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to build scalable, resilient, and secure solutions that directly support national defense and intelligence missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions using modern programming languages
  • Build and deploy cloud-native, containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Develop and maintain microservices-based architectures and RESTful APIs
  • Implement event-driven architectures using tools such as Kafka
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices to enable rapid, secure delivery
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile development environment
  • Support observability, monitoring, and system performance optimization

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages:
  • - Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, or TypeScript
  • Experience with front-end frameworks such as:
  • - Angular, React, or Vue.js
  • Experience with backend frameworks such as:
  • - Flask, Django, or Spring Boot
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • - Docker and Kubernetes
  • Helm for Kubernetes deployments
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Strong understanding of:
  • - Microservices architecture
  • RESTful APIs and OpenAPI specifications
  • Event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka)

DevSecOps & Engineering Practices

  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab or Jenkins
  • Familiarity with GitOps workflows
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
  • - Terraform and/or Ansible
  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Knowledge of observability and monitoring tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD or federal programs
  • Familiarity with secure software development practices
  • Experience working in highly regulated or classified environments
