, designed from day one to replace manual healthcare operations with intelligent automation. We partner with payers and providers to deliver doula care at scale by embedding AI directly into care coordination, billing, and insurance workflows.

The Role

As a
Founding Engineer
, you will be one of the
core engineers building Raya Health’s platform from the ground up
, alongside a small, highly collaborative engineering team. You’ll help design and ship production healthcare systems that use AI as a first-class primitive, automating complex workflows, integrating with healthcare infrastructure, and supporting real-world operational scale. You’ll work closely with the CTO and engineering teammates to translate healthcare and operational complexity into scalable, reliable software. This is a hands-on role for engineers who want deep ownership, technical influence, and real production impact.

What You’ll Build:

AI-Native Automation Systems

• AI-powered workflows for clinical documentation, billing, insurance operations, and patient communication
• Guardrails, validation, and quality checks for AI-generated outputs
• Human-in-the-loop and fallback mechanisms for regulated workflows

Core Platform Infrastructure

• Patient–provider matching systems optimized for preferences, language, availability, location, and care needs
• Care coordination tools designed specifically for doula workflows
• Integration layers connecting EHRs, insurance platforms, clearinghouses, and payment processors

Revenue Cycle & Operations

• End-to-end billing workflows including claim submission, tracking, and reconciliation across payers
• Insurance eligibility verification and authorization workflows
• Revenue monitoring, exception handling, and operational reporting

Experience with:

- OpenAI models
- Anthropic models
- Fine-tuning, instruction-tuning, or domain adaptation
for healthcare or operational use cases

You should be comfortable with:

• Prompt architecture, agent workflows, and model evaluation
• Reducing hallucination risk in regulated environments
• Monitoring, logging, and improving AI systems over time
• Making tradeoffs between fine-tuning, prompting, and orchestration

Strong plus:

- Building
custom GPTs, agents, or internal AI tools
- Deploying AI in HIPAA-regulated environments
- Working with structured clinical data (FHIR, claims, forms)

Responsibilities:

Engineering & Collaboration

• Contribute to architecture and system design alongside the founding team
• Build secure, production-ready systems handling sensitive healthcare data
• Help establish engineering best practices, testing, and deployment workflows
• Collaborate closely with other engineers to ship reliably and iterate quickly

Healthcare Systems Integration

• Build and maintain integrations with EHRs, clearinghouses, insurance verification services, and payment processors
• Work with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7)
• Ensure HIPAA compliance across systems (encryption, access control, audit logging)

Product Execution

• Translate healthcare workflows into scalable technical systems
• Ship features based on real operational feedback
• Balance speed with reliability in a regulated environment

Who You Are

• Experience building and maintaining production systems
• Comfortable in early-stage environments with ambiguity and ownership
• Strong collaborator with product intuition
• Excited by AI-native systems and healthcare infrastructure

• Portfolio, side projects, or shipped products encouraged
• Experience deploying systems beyond prototypes

Compensation

- Salary:
$100,000 – $120,000 base + equity
