Rebar is building the next-generation operating system for commercial HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing suppliers and subcontractors. Over the past year, our V1 quoting product has scaled to 250+ quotes per day and grown to 1.5M+ ARR, with adoption across many of the top suppliers in North America. Fresh off our $14M Series A (funded by the world’s best construction-tech investors), we are entering our next phase of growth, and engineering will be central to everything we build next.
We’re looking for a Platform Engineer who’s ready to help scale a fast-growing real-time collaboration platform. You’ll join a small, highly capable engineering team building deeply technical systems — from high-performance web applications to distributed real-time infrastructure — powering the future of commercial construction workflows.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning complex features end-to-end, working across the stack, and building production-grade systems that are fast, reliable, and maintainable.
Responsibilities
- Build and Ship Across the Stack – Design, implement, and ship complex features across frontend, backend, and infrastructure with a strong focus on correctness, performance, and reliability.
- System Design & Execution – Contribute to the design of scalable systems and services, making thoughtful tradeoffs around complexity, performance, and maintainability.
- Production Ownership – Take responsibility for features and services in production, including debugging issues, improving observability, and iterating based on real-world usage.
- Collaboration – Work closely with product, design, and other engineers to translate product requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Code Quality & Standards – Write clean, well-tested code and contribute to shared standards around testing, CI/CD, and system reliability.
What We’re Looking For
You’re the kind of engineer who can take a loosely defined product goal and turn it into a well-designed, production-ready feature — from UI through backend and persistence — without needing a lot of ceremony. You have strong instincts for reliability and performance, and you like working close to real customer usage: shipping, measuring, iterating, and hardening.

Expert in TypeScript, React/Next.js, Node.js, and Python.
- Strong backend and infrastructure experience with AWS (or similar), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong experience with databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, or PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms.
- Deep understanding of concurrency and distributed systems — Kubernetes, clustered environments, multi-user synchronization.
Experience with real-time systems (WebSockets, Yjs, Redis, CRDTs).
- Experience with real-time systems (WebSockets, Yjs, Redis, CRDTs).
- Experience with monitoring and testing frameworks (Sentry, Fullstory, Posthog, Cypress, Playwright).
- Ability to ensure frontend reliability and performance optimization.Nice to Have
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or Pulumi).
Familiarity with Kubernetes and cluster orchestration.
Low-level programming experience (Rust or C++).
- Contributions to open source or defining engineering best practices at scale.
Experience building interactive or collaborative visual tools (e.g., Figma-style editing, whiteboard apps).
- Experience working in a startup environment, especially during scaling stages.

- Salary: $160k-$200K, dependent on experience
- Equity: Meaningful equity package, commensurate with experience
- Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
