The Director of Quality Control is responsible for building, leading, and continuously improving the brand’s end-to-end quality program, from raw materials through finished goods. This role owns quality standards across all vendors and regions, ensures consistent execution at scale, and partners closely with Production, Purchasing, R&D, Product Development and Merchandising to prevent issues before they reach customers.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands apparel construction, factory realities and how to balance quality, speed, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Strategy & Standards

  • Define and maintain brand-wide quality standards, tolerances and testing protocols across all product categories.
  • Establish clear AQL standards and inspection criteria for inline and final inspections.
  • Own fabric, trim and garment performance requirements (shrinkage, colorfastness, pilling, skewing, etc.).

Vendor & Factory Management

  • Lead quality oversight across domestic and international factories.
  • Approve, score and continuously evaluate vendors based on quality performance.
  • Partner with PD and Production on vendor onboarding, ramp-ups and exits.
  • Conduct factory audits (in-person or remote) and ensure corrective action plans are implemented and sustained.

Operational Execution

  • Manage a QC team (internal and third-party inspectors)
  • Oversee inspection calendars, escalation protocols and shipment release decisions.
  • Ensure defects are tracked, root-caused and resolved, so that they are not repeated.
  • Balance quality enforcement with production timelines and commercial realities.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Work closely with Product Development to ensure designs are manufacturable and quality risks are addressed early.
  • Collaborate with Merch and Design on materials, construction and cost-quality tradeoffs.
  • Support Customer Love by reducing defect-driven returns and complaints.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Build reporting dashboards for defect rates, failure trends, vendor scorecards and cost of quality.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework, waste and chargebacks.
  • Drive education and training internally and at factories to raise quality maturity.
