Medical Director
Role summary
Seeking a licensed and experienced Medical Director to provide clinical oversight and medical leadership for a behavioral health and addiction treatment program. This part-time, contract role requires a physician with experience in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment to ensure medical integrity, compliance, and quality of care. Responsibilities include oversight of medical protocols, timely review of clinical documentation, and collaboration with the clinical team. The ideal candidate is responsive, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, with an active MD or DO license in California.
Position Overview
We are seeking a licensed and experienced Medical Director to provide clinical oversight and medical leadership for a growing behavioral health and addiction treatment program. This is a part-time, contract position ideal for a physician with experience in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment who is looking for a flexible, high-impact role.
The Medical Director will be responsible for ensuring the medical integrity, compliance, and quality of care within the program. This role includes oversight of medical protocols, timely review and authentication of clinical documentation, and collaboration with the clinical team to support safe and effective patient care. The ideal candidate is responsive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medical oversight for residential and outpatient addiction treatment services
- Review, approve, and sign patient charts, treatment plans, and physician orders in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards
- Establish and maintain medical policies, procedures, and treatment protocols
- Collaborate with clinical staff (therapists, case managers, nursing) to support patient care
- Be available for consultation regarding patient medical needs and clinical concerns
- Support audit readiness by ensuring documentation meets regulatory and payer requirements
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives as needed
- Maintain appropriate documentation and supervision standards for all medical services
Schedule & Commitment
- Part-time, contract role
- Flexible schedule (combination of remote and on-site, depending on facility needs)
- Ongoing availability for communication and time-sensitive documentation
Qualifications
- Active MD or DO license in California
- Experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, or psychiatry strongly preferred
- Familiarity with residential and outpatient treatment settings
- Knowledge of documentation requirements, compliance standards, and medical necessity criteria
- Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure accurate and timely documentation
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $3,000.00 - $6,000.00 per month
