Role summary

The Factory Test team is seeking a Test Systems Engineer to design, build, and operate test infrastructure for aerospace components. This role involves owning and managing automated fluid systems, including their mechanical, fluid, and electrical components. Responsibilities include designing systems to engineering requirements, commissioning new assets, performing fault tolerance analysis, and executing test campaigns. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field and knowledge of fluid and thermodynamic principles. Experience with cryogenics, structural design, and relevant ASME codes are considered a plus. The role is based in Long Beach, CA.

About the Team:

The Factory Test team designs, builds, and operates the infrastructure needed to test nearly every part of Terran R right here at our headquarters in Long Beach, CA. This centralized approach provides engineers and technicians with exposure to the entire product lifecycle across a wide range of part sizes and complexities. The scope and scale are significant, with test stands capable of handling millions of pounds of force. Team members lead multiple projects in parallel, avoiding silos and gaining broad technical experience without needing a background in aerospace. With high-impact campaigns ahead, now is the time to join. About the Role:

  • As a Test Systems Engineer, you will own 1 or more test systems or test campaigns supporting development of Terran R components at our facility in Long Beach, CA. As a system owner, you will design, analyze, and operate automated fluids systems. Teamwork and communication skills are critical, as you will work cross-departmentally to ensure your systems meet the test requirements of the component designer. Examples of your tasks may include:
  • Designing test systems including their mechanical, fluid, and electrical components
  • Commissioning new test assets and systems
  • Completing, presenting, or reviewing fault tolerance analysis
  • Planning and executing test campaigns
  • About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or similar
  • Knowledge of fluid and thermodynamic first principles
  • Demonstrated experience designing systems to engineering requirements
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of systems operations
  • Ability to concisely communicate technical topics to audiences of many different backgrounds
  • Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience writing sequences or other software
  • Familiarity with cryogenics
  • Understanding of structural design principles
  • Delivery of systems compliant with ASME B31.3 & BPVC
  • Willing to work at heights, in confined spaces, in a dirty environment, and away from your desk
  • No previous aerospace experience is required for this position
