About the Opportunity
The
Senior Software Engineer, Site Reliability
role is focused on leading technical strategy and architecture for critical components of the personal loans application and verification process. This position drives improvements in system scalability, reliability, and performance, impacting conversion rates and operational integrity.
The role involves cross-team collaboration and leadership to advance the platform's evolution while balancing product demands, risk management, and compliance. It contributes significantly to the organization's ability to deliver a seamless and trustworthy lending experience.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for the applicant funnel
- Define and drive architecture for the end-to-end loan journey
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks affecting conversion, latency, and reliability
- Lead large, cross-functional initiatives
- Manage high-impact efforts spanning multiple domains including Growth, Risk, and Lending Partners
- Align teams around cohesive technical strategies and execution plans
- Evolve platform architecture by decomposing tightly coupled systems into scalable services and APIs
- Enable cross-product reuse while maintaining system integrity
- Translate complex business problems into technical systems
- Balance product velocity with risk, compliance, and maintainability
- Collaborate with product, risk, compliance, and operations to deliver measurable outcomes
- Drive experimentation and intelligent automation within the funnel
- Elevate experimentation frameworks and data-driven iteration
- Identify and lead AI-driven experience initiatives such as adaptive flows and automation
- Establish best practices in system design, observability, testing, and operational excellence
- Mentor senior and staff engineers and influence engineering culture
- Provide technical leadership across teams and influence broader architectural strategy
- Proactively identify long-term risks and opportunities and align with leadership
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building and scaling consumer-facing systems
- Proven leadership experience at Staff or Principal level managing large, ambiguous, cross-functional projects
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and scalable system design
- Experience modernizing tightly coupled systems into modular components with reliability
- Skilled in experiment-driven development including instrumentation, A/B testing, and iteration
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Track record of mentoring and developing engineering peers
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
Preferred
- Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, cloud-native development (AWS preferred), Docker, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD including infrastructure as code
- Familiarity with funnel optimization in high-scale consumer products
- Experience in customer support technology or conversational AI systems
- Background in regulated or high-trust domains such as fintech, lending, identity verification, or payments
- Comfortable with remote collaboration and frequent video communication
