- About the Opportunity:
The Senior Technical Program Manager, Cost Management leads cross-functional programs that transform how R&D investments are managed, analyzed, and optimized. This role drives strategy, prioritizes initiatives, manages execution, and delivers data-driven insights that impact the technical roadmap. The position requires managing complexity, resolving ambiguity, and influencing leadership to ensure responsible innovation and measurable business outcomes, making a significant contribution to cost management and financial clarity within R&D.
- Responsibilities:
• Own the roadmap and execution of R&D cost management programs including software capitalization, cloud cost optimization, vendor spend governance, and financial reporting frameworks
• Lead cross-functional programs end-to-end, defining strategy, success metrics, and operating mechanisms
• Deliver monthly forecasts for key vendors and cost-saving initiatives
• Clarify complex areas such as cloud cost allocation, capitalization policy, and R&D tax credit qualification
• Collaborate with Accounting, Tax, and Finance to implement processes for capitalization, audit readiness, and vendor spend management with data quality controls
• Integrate financial analytics into technical decision-making by linking business value and ROI to R&D spend
• Establish and maintain mechanisms like cadences, dashboards, and KPIs to enhance cost visibility and budget stewardship
• Communicate priorities and sequence work to drive impact and scale processes in a fast-changing environment
- Requirements:
• 7+ years in technical program management, strategic finance, FinOps, or related roles within technology or R&D-focused settings
• 4+ years leading cross-functional programs involving engineering and finance such as cloud cost optimization, software capitalization, and R&D tax credits
• Experience with software capitalization processes and supporting audits across multiple cycles
• 3+ years managing cloud cost transparency and optimization on platforms like AWS or GCP
• Proficiency in SQL or advanced spreadsheet modeling and familiarity with BI dashboards
• Experience managing program-level budgets and vendor spend with alignment to business outcomes
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, engineering, computer science, or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a relevant technical field
• FinOps Certified Practitioner or equivalent with proven cloud cost optimization implementation
• Familiarity with AWS Cost Explorer, CUR, GCP Billing/BigQuery, and BI tools such as Looker
• Experience implementing budget governance frameworks for R&D
• Knowledge of software capitalization policies (ASC 350-40) and R&D tax credit processes in the U.S. and Canada
• Track record of delivering cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising product velocity
