- About the Opportunity:
The Test Engineer role supports a large-scale federal technology modernization program by ensuring application quality across functional testing, automation, accessibility evaluation, and performance testing. This position works within an Agile scrum team to execute manual and automated tests, maintain automation frameworks, verify accessibility compliance, and conduct load testing to ensure reliable software releases. The role is essential for validating software quality and communicating findings clearly to technical and leadership teams.
- Responsibilities:
• Execute functional testing of web application features, validating acceptance criteria and documenting defects with reproduction steps and severity
• Build and maintain automated regression test suites using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, and Cucumber/Gherkin BDD patterns integrated into CI pipelines
• Create and maintain automated API test collections with Postman and Rest Assured to validate microservices and integrations
• Perform digital accessibility evaluations using automated tools (aXe, pa11y, WAVE, ANDI) and manual screen reader testing (JAWS, NVDA) per WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 standards
• Document accessibility issues with WCAG success criteria and remediation guidance for developers
• Conduct load and performance testing with NeoLoad, JMeter, or similar tools to validate system thresholds before releases
• Maintain test plans and cases in Confluence linked to Jira stories, documenting test evidence for sprint reviews
• Collaborate with developers to define clear acceptance and test criteria during backlog refinement
• Participate in Agile ceremonies within a SAFe framework
• Maintain a 95% or higher pass rate for CI-integrated test suites and promptly resolve flaky tests
• Support production triage by diagnosing and verifying issue fixes through the CI/CD pipeline
• Contribute to improvements in test strategy, automation frameworks, and QA knowledge sharing
- Requirements:
• Minimum 3 years of experience in software quality assurance and testing
• Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
• Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright, with scripting skills in Java and/or JavaScript
• At least 1 year of experience with Playwright for end-to-end browser automation and CI integration
• DHS Trusted Tester certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months, with experience applying accessibility conformance test processes
• Minimum 1 year of experience with performance/load testing tools like NeoLoad or JMeter
• Experience writing BDD test scenarios using Cucumber/Gherkin syntax
• Proficiency with API testing tools Postman and Rest Assured
• Knowledge of digital accessibility testing standards WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 and related tools
• Experience with manual screen reader testing using JAWS or NVDA
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitLab CI) and automated test integration
• Strong skills in documenting defects with clear reproduction, severity, and evidence
• Familiarity with code quality tools such as SonarQube
• Excellent communication skills for status updates and collaboration
