Senior Software / Data Engineer

This role is posted on behalf of the following client:
an early-stage legal tech company (founded 2022) building a high-quality case law and statutory data layer that powers an AI-native legal research product and B2B data services. The platform is used by 200+ law firms, with power users spending 30+ hours/week, and the company has raised ~$6.1M to date.
Role Overview:
- Build data pipelines that augment legal documents with structured metadata (e.g., which decisions overrule other decisions; appeal/remand/consolidation relationships).
- Design systems to ensure the reliability and accuracy of hundreds of web scrapers and the downstream data they produce.
- Optimize and evaluate core utilities for legal data tasks such as extracting/resolving citations and determining court overruling hierarchies.
- Expose core data services via APIs and real-time interfaces (e.g., MCPs, websockets).
- Benchmark and evaluate core tasks using human and synthetic evaluation approaches.
Who You Are:
- 2+ years of experience as a technical generalist across backend engineering (fullstack experience a plus).
- Comfortable working with data pipelines plus basic-to-intermediate infrastructure/devops; able to stand up projects end-to-end on preferred infrastructure.
- Strong in Python and SQL; interest/experience with stats/ML/AI is a bonus (a pragmatic, “cautiously AI-pilled” mindset fits well).
Compensation:
- Salary: $170000 - $240000
- Equity: 0.1% - 0.5%
