Principal Frontend Engineer, Co-Experience
Role summary
Roblox is seeking a Principal Frontend Engineer for its Co-Experience team to shape the social interaction platform for millions of users. This role involves defining and building real-time communication features (chat, voice, video) across traditional and immersive environments. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of frontend experience, expertise in consumer audio/video calling at scale, and a strong background in system design and AI-assisted development. You will lead technical strategy, mentor senior engineers, and remain hands-on in the codebase, driving projects from technical planning to launch and iteration. As a Principal Frontend Engineer on the Co-Experience team, you'll define how hundreds of millions of Roblox users talk, hang out, and stay connected. If you've shipped consumer real-time audio/video calling — and you understand the reliability, latency, and trust constraints that come with it — this is your chance to bring that craft to a product unlike any other.
Our flagship surface is the platform-level Party System: the heartbeat of social interaction on Roblox, where users form groups and stay together across servers and games. Our technical foundations are strong; we're accelerating toward product-market fit and need a principal who delivers.
Your scope will span the full Communication surface — chat, voice, video — and formats we haven't built yet, across both traditional UI and immersive 3D environments. You'll shape the systems and APIs that let Roblox creators add rich social features to their own worlds, and lead technical strategy across multiple pods to bring it all together.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
