Role summary

Rush Enterprises, Inc. is seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain the organization's IT environment, including physical and virtual systems, networks, storage, and cloud services. The role focuses on ensuring infrastructure is secure, scalable, and efficient to support daily operations and future growth. Responsibilities include managing and monitoring systems, developing automation tools, maintaining documentation, and participating in disaster recovery planning. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in infrastructure engineering and a Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. Certifications in networking, cloud, or virtualization are highly desirable.

The IT Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining the foundational systems and technologies that support the organization’s IT environment. This includes managing physical and virtual systems, networks, storage, and cloud services. The role ensures that infrastructure is secure, scalable, and efficient, and supports both day-to-day operations and long-term growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain the infrastructure architecture to support the organization's applications, systems, and services.
  • Manage and monitor servers, networks, storage, security systems, and cloud infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
  • Develop and maintain automated infrastructure deployment, configuration, and management tools.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of infrastructure systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Develop and participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and tests.
  • Research and evaluate new infrastructure technologies to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and work collaboratively with other teams to resolve them.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, system administration, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are highly desirable.
  • Consideration is given to relevant experience and related certification.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver's license with a driving record that meets the insurability guidelines set forth by the company’s insurance carrier.

Other skills and abilities required

  • Ability to escalate with vendors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure the infrastructure is scalable, secure, and highly available.
  • Ability to apply patches, updates, and upgrades to infrastructure systems as required.
  • Knowledge of configuring and monitoring firewalls, routers, switches, and other network devices.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and virtualization technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols and services (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
  • Proficient in automation and scripting.
  • Knowledgeable with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Familiarity with best practices for security standards, firewalls, VPNs, and disaster recovery.
