Compensation
At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members and are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $54630 - $72387.4 Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training.
This position may also be eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP). AIP amounts are variable and are dependent on both company and individual performance, subject to eligibility criteria. The target bonus percentage for this role is 4% of annual base earnings.
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, The Product Designer will work in a fast-paced environment as part of a team of highly skilled engineers and designers that is responsible for the support and development of 14.4kv to 69kv distribution switches for the electrical power grid in compliance with industry standards as well as S&C’s policies and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide design support for standard parts and assemblies of medium voltage distribution switches ranging from 14.4kv through 69kv.
  • Participate in small and large product redesign projects and investigations.
  • Hands on exposure to assembly of prototype samples as well as testing and evaluation.
  • Regular engagement with QA and shop floor personnel to resolve issues that arise.
  • Independently prepare design models and drawings using Solid Edge 3D CAD software and maintain design models, drawings, and bills of material using 3DX design management software.
  • Support supplier quality and sourcing projects, which include Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in a Lean manufacturing environment.
  • Varied work requires independent exercise of judgment to make decisions from numerous alternatives under general guidance usually covered by standards and procedures.

What We Are Looking For

  • Post Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of 1-year of design experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD software (preferably Solid Edge and Microstation) and Product Data Management Systems such as 3DX or Dassault equivalent.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes and material properties.
  • Some exposure to power engineering principles, basic understanding of electric utility distribution systems an asset but not required.
  • Sound technical judgement with respect to problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Designing mechanical parts, including castings, sheet metal parts, and machined parts.
  • Inspecting parts and assemblies using basic methods such as visual inspection, calipers, and gauges.
  • Familiar in the use of hand tools.
  • Technical skills - interpreting drawings, drafting, familiarity with GD&T is required.

Physical Effort
Normal or frequent minor physical effort required for the day-to-day activity in the workplace. May involve standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs and lifting/moving/using objects or equipment up to 33lbs.
Work Environment
Acceptable working environment with minor or almost no disagreeable or challenging working conditions as part of everyday expected levels (all jobs will occasionally experience undesirable or disagreeable events).
Travel
Some travel nationally and to United States may be necessary.
