SL King Technologies is seeking a CQ400 Rail Car Production Test Engineer / Inspector to support the manufacturing, testing, and acceptance of new rail vehicles for MARTA.
This role is responsible for verifying rail car performance, validating system functionality, and ensuring compliance with contract specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements throughout production and pre-revenue testing phases.
The ideal candidate combines engineering knowledge, hands-on rail vehicle experience, and strong inspection/testing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
Production Testing & Validation
- Review functional and performance testing of CQ400 rail car systems including:
- Propulsion and braking systems
- Train control and communications
- HVAC systems
- Doors and passenger systems
- Review test procedures, test plans, and commissioning protocols
- Analyze test data and document results for compliance verification
Inspection & Quality Assurance
- Conduct in-process and final inspections of rail car assemblies
- Verify compliance with:
- Contract specifications
- Engineering drawings
- Industry standards (APTA, FRA, ISO where applicable)
- Identify non-conformances and support corrective action resolution
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed test reports, inspection reports, and deficiency logs
- Maintain configuration and test records aligned with MARTA requirements
- Support acceptance documentation and turnover packages
Coordination & Support
- Interface with:
- Manufacturer production teams
- MARTA engineering and QA representatives
- SL King project management
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts
Required Qualifications
Education OR Equivalent Experience
- Option 1 (Education Path):
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Systems Engineering
- Rail/Transportation Engineering
- OR related technical field
OR
- Option 2 (Experience Path):
- 8–12+ years of progressive experience in:
- Rail vehicle maintenance, testing, or commissioning
- Transit systems (heavy rail preferred)
- Rolling stock production or overhaul programs
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of:
- Rail vehicle systems (propulsion, braking, controls)
- Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
- Experience with:
- Test equipment and diagnostic tools
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics
- Familiarity with:
- APTA standards and transit agency QA requirements
- Ability to:
- Analyze technical data and identify issues
- Work in production and shop environments
- Communicate effectively with engineers and technicians
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with rail car manufacturing or new vehicle procurement programs
- Experience supporting MARTA or similar U.S. transit agencies
- Background in:
- Commissioning
- Systems integration
- Reliability testing
- Certifications (preferred but not required):
- Quality (ASQ, ISO)
- Rail or systems engineering credentials
