Software Engineers design, develop, and maintain software solutions by engaging in the complete development lifecycle. They collaborate with customers to capture requirements, aligning them with business goals and architectural guidelines. Using various programming languages, they craft secure and efficient code, often incorporating third-party resources to extend functionality. These experts are committed to continual system improvement and adoption of new technologies to meet changing business demands. They also prioritize security, constantly updating systems to address emerging threats. Additionally, Software Engineers specify and evaluate vendor capabilities to provide applications or services, and configure, implement, and maintain software applications. They conduct a wide range of tests and analyses to ensure software meets or exceeds specified standards and end user requirements and ensure that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:
SRNS is seeking to hire an Experienced Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) Software Engineer to join our Operational Technology (OT) group at the Savannah River Site. Our group focuses on the research and development of AR/VR solutions. This role involves creating new AR/VR products. This position requires a motivated and team-oriented individual who can leverage their knowledge of AR/VR technologies to meet the needs and challenges of the nuclear deterrence missions.
The Experienced AR/VR Software Engineer will be responsible for:
Architect, develop, deploy, and maintain features for AR/VR applications.
Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code.
Integrate advanced AI/ML algorithms to enhance XR experiences in Unity and Unreal Engine.
Develop 3D models using Blender, Navisworks, CREO, or other 3D development tools.
Perform integration testing as well as collaborating with other internal teams.
Provide technical guidance and support to Program/Project customers.
Communicate with project customers and end users.
Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems.
Begin using SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance.
Accept complex tasks and receive minimal guidance from senior professionals.
Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem-solving and program planning.
Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals.
Develop alternate solutions to existing problems.
Perform all detail work necessary to determine the best solutions.
Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in the assigned area.
Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in the assigned area.
Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort.
Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
• Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Professional experience developing virtual and augmented reality applications in Unreal Engine or Unity.
Experience with integrating AI/ML technologies in AR/VR applications.
Proficiency in developing interactive applications for virtual reality and/or mixed reality.
Working knowledge of Python, C++, C#, and JavaScript.
Knowledge of the Scrum/Agile development framework.
Experience with AR/VR SDKs such as OpenXR, ARCore, ARKit, or Vuforia.
Experience developing applications using iOS or Apple products.
Experience developing 3D models using Blender, Maya, Navisworks, CREO, or other 3D development tools.
Experience working with on-premises cloud computing platforms.
Proficiency with Git or comparable version control system.
Experience updating and patching AR/VR hardware and software.
Experience managing version control.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Collaboration skills specific to working with design teams (such as UI/UX designers or artists) to integrate their work into AR/VR applications.
Ability to quickly build and iterate on prototypes to validate ideas and features.
Understanding of Industry Standards, Software Quality Assurance, Cyber Security, and Process Operations.
