Role summary

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) is seeking an Experienced Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) Software Engineer for its Operational Technology (OT) group. This role focuses on the research and development of AR/VR solutions, creating new products to support nuclear deterrence missions. The engineer will architect, develop, deploy, and maintain AR/VR applications, design efficient code, and integrate AI/ML algorithms within Unity and Unreal Engine. Responsibilities include developing 3D models using tools like Blender, performing integration testing, and providing technical guidance to customers. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with at least five years of experience, or a Master's degree with two years of experience.

They also prioritize security, constantly updating systems to address emerging threats. Additionally, Software Engineers specify and evaluate vendor capabilities to provide applications or services, and configure, implement, and maintain software applications. They conduct a wide range of tests and analyses to ensure software meets or exceeds specified standards and end user requirements and ensure that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:
SRNS is seeking to hire an Experienced Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) Software Engineer to join our Operational Technology (OT) group at the Savannah River Site. Our group focuses on the research and development of AR/VR solutions. This role involves creating new AR/VR products. This position requires a motivated and team-oriented individual who can leverage their knowledge of AR/VR technologies to meet the needs and challenges of the nuclear deterrence missions.
The Experienced AR/VR Software Engineer will be responsible for:
Architect, develop, deploy, and maintain features for AR/VR applications.
Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code.
Integrate advanced AI/ML algorithms to enhance XR experiences in Unity and Unreal Engine.
Develop 3D models using Blender, Navisworks, CREO, or other 3D development tools.
Perform integration testing as well as collaborating with other internal teams.
Provide technical guidance and support to Program/Project customers.
Communicate with project customers and end users.
Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems.
Begin using SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance.
Accept complex tasks and receive minimal guidance from senior professionals.
Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem-solving and program planning.
Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals.
Develop alternate solutions to existing problems.
Perform all detail work necessary to determine the best solutions.
Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in the assigned area.
Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in the assigned area.
Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
