Role summary

Semex is seeking a Quality Control Technician to join their Production Team in Guelph. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest quality products from industry-leading genetics used for dairy and beef herds. Key responsibilities include conducting quality testing (morphology, bacteriology, motility), maintaining laboratory equipment, monitoring environmental parameters, investigating non-conformances, and analyzing data for quality assurance and operational decisions. A diploma or bachelor's degree in science, agriculture, or biotechnology is preferred, along with experience in quality control and a production facility. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical thinking are essential.

About the Role

We are currently looking for a passionate and engaged Quality Control Technician to fill a vacancy and join our Production Team. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor this role will be responsible for ensuring our production process produces the highest quality products from our industry leading genetics that are used on farms for healthy dairy and beef herds around the world. 

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct quality testing on finished products, including morphology, bacteriology, and motility assessments
  • Maintain laboratory equipment through cleaning, calibration, and routine upkeep to ensure reliable results
  • Monitor the laboratory environment and quality parameters, including temperature controls, to uphold product standards
  • Investigate, document, and report quality non-conformances, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Analyze and interpret data to support quality assurance and operational decision-making

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in science, agriculture, or biotechnology preferred
  • Experience in quality control
  • Experience working in a production facility is an asset
  • Agricultural experience is an asset
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Analytical thinking

Work Location & Minimum Pay Rate 

This is an in-person role requiring on-site attendance five days per week at our Guelph location. Regular hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with every third week the shifts being 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

This position offers a starting wage of $23.00/hour with potential compensation enhancements based on applicable experience and qualifications.
