Platform Engineer

Sightview Software is seeking a highly skilled AWS Platform Engineer to help design, build, and operate the cloud‑native platforms powering our PHP-based applications. The ideal candidate has strong AWS expertise, solid Infrastructure as Code experience, and deep familiarity with CI/CD tooling, container platforms, and API-driven, microservice, and event‑based architectures. You’ll work closely with engineering, architecture, and operations teams to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available cloud solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Platform Engineering

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure AWS environments for Sightview Software platforms.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar tools (CloudFormation, CDK, Pulumi).
• Build, enhance, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for PHP applications using Jenkins and Bitbucket Pipelines.

Microservices & Serverless Architecture

• Architect and support distributed microservices on ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, and related AWS compute services.
• Implement event-driven patterns with EventBridge, SQS, SNS, and Step Functions.
• Build service orchestration and workflow automation across PHP and backend systems.

Containerization & Runtime Environments

• Containerize and manage PHP applications using Docker and AWS container orchestration (ECS/Fargate).
• Maintain secure, optimized container images and manage artifacts through ECR and Bitbucket integrations.

API Engineering

• Build, maintain, and optimize internal and external APIs powering Sightview’s platforms.
• Implement and support secure authentication and authorization: Basic Auth, API Keys, OAuth2.0, OIDC.
• Contribute to API standards, versioning strategies, and lifecycle management.

Programming & Automation

• Write and maintain backend services, automation, and tooling primarily in PHP.
• (Optional) Develop automation scripts or serverless functions in Python, Node.js, or Go.
• Participate in code reviews and help establish engineering best practices.

Security, Monitoring & Reliability

• Implement AWS security best practices, IAM access models, and secret management.
• Build observability into workloads using CloudWatch, DataDog, and related tooling.
• Improve reliability through proactive monitoring, root-cause analysis, and platform optimization.

Collaboration & Leadership

• Partner with application, product, and QA teams to translate requirements into scalable cloud designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in architectural discussions.
• Participate in on-call rotations and support incident response processes.

Required Qualifications

• 2–5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering roles.
• Strong, hands-on AWS experience in production environments.
• Proficiency with Terraform or other IaC frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Jenkins and Git-based workflows using Bitbucket.
• Experience deploying and supporting PHP applications in Docker or serverless environments.
• Strong understanding of microservice or event-driven architecture.
• Knowledge of authentication standards: Basic Auth, API Key, OAuth2.0, OIDC.
• Experience with event-driven components like SQS, EventBridge, SNS.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD and modern DevOps workflows.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and production support experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, SysOps, Developer).
• Experience with additional CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
• Experience with distributed tracing or service mesh architectures.
• Knowledge of compliance/security standards (SOC2, ISO 27001, HIPAA).
• Experience with multi-account, large-scale AWS environments.
