SKADI Cyber Defense Corporation is a Canadian, women-owned cybersecurity startup building Frostbow, an autonomous security platform purpose-built for defense and critical infrastructure. We're expanding into OT cybersecurity across mining, Arctic environments, and national defense, and we need an engineer who can operate at that frontier.
We operate with FEDNOR support and are actively commercializing solutions for IT and OT environments. The technical foundation is strong. The market opportunity is real. We know exactly what we're building. We just need the right person to help us deploy it where it matters most.
The Role
The IT/OT Security Engineer sits at one of the most technically demanding intersections in cybersecurity: the place where enterprise networks meet industrial control systems, and where a misconfiguration doesn't just cause downtime, it shuts down a mine or compromises a defense asset.
You'll work directly with clients and alongside our AI/ML engineering team to deploy, tune, and extend Frostbow in complex, mixed IT/OT environments. This is not a monitoring-from-a-distance role. You'll be on-site, in the weeds, solving problems that most engineers never encounter.
What You'll Do
OT Security Architecture and Assessment
- Design and assess security architectures for ICS, SCADA, and OT networks in mining, utilities, and defense
- Conduct OT risk assessments across Purdue Model layers, identifying asset criticality and real exposure
- Build network segmentation strategies, DMZ designs, and compensating controls for legacy environments
- Support NORCAT-based OT cybersecurity validation activities and field deployments
Frostbow Platform Integration
- Deploy and configure Frostbow sensors and agents across IT and OT network segments
- Develop OT-specific detection content and alert tuning for industrial protocols including Modbus, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, and OPC-UA
- Work with the AI/ML team to extend autonomous detection into OT asset visibility and anomaly detection
- Deploy in disconnected environments including Arctic and air-gapped architectures
Client Engagement and Delivery
- Lead technical discovery sessions with IT and OT stakeholders at client sites
- Produce assessment reports, architecture recommendations, and remediation roadmaps that are actually readable
- Train and transfer knowledge to client operations and security teams
- Support pre-sales work including demos, scoping, and proof-of-concept engagements
Standards and Compliance
- Apply ICS/OT frameworks including IEC 62443, NIST SP 800-82, and NERC CIP
- Stay current on Government of Canada cyber directives for critical infrastructure and defense supply chain
- Contribute to SKADI's internal documentation, playbooks, and methodologies
What You Bring
Must Have
- 5+ years in cybersecurity, with at least 2 years focused on OT or ICS security
- Real knowledge of ICS/SCADA architectures, industrial protocols, and OT network design
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, Wireshark, and SIEM platforms
- Strong IT security fundamentals including Active Directory, PKI, endpoint security, and vulnerability management
- Linux systems administration experience
- The ability to translate technical risk into plain business context for non-technical stakeholders
- Eligibility for Canadian security clearance (Canadian citizenship or permanent residency required)
Nice to Have
- Deployment experience in mining, energy, utilities, or defense environments
- Familiarity with log ingestion pipelines and alert tuning
- Exposure to AI/ML-based threat detection or anomaly detection
- GICSP, CSSA, CISSP, CISM, or equivalent certification
- Experience working in disconnected, bandwidth-constrained, or remote networks
- French language proficiency
What We Offer
- Work at the actual frontier of AI-driven cybersecurity, not a company that puts "AI-powered" in a marketing deck
- Direct impact on Canadian national security, critical infrastructure, and Northern Ontario industry
- A team that has built real things in defense, finance, and enterprise technology
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
- Flexible hybrid arrangement based in Bracebridge, Ontario
