Role summary
Slalom is seeking a Software Engineering Architect to lead small development teams in designing, developing, and operating scalable software solutions. This role involves providing technical guidance, defining implementation plans, and writing high-quality code using emerging technologies, primarily in cloud-based ecosystems like AWS. Responsibilities include frontend development with Angular, backend services with Java, .NET, or Python, and ensuring operational efficiencies through automated build and deployment pipelines. The position requires strong collaboration skills, humble expertise, and a drive for continuous learning within an agile consulting environment. This is a hybrid role based in Toronto.

Job Title: Architect - Software Engineering (For Vacant Role)
So, what will I do?
- Collaborate with other software development capabilities to iteratively design, develop, validate, and operate software at scale using agile techniques.
- Provide oversight and guidance for other software engineers.
- Lead the development of the implementation plan: designing the solution, setting patterns and practices and aligning to the project roadmap.
- Write high-quality application code using emerging technologies and frameworks primarily targeting cloud-based ecosystems.
- Verify components at the unit and integration level using proven validation techniques.
- Develop supporting scripts and routines that automate procedures and help maintain components in production environments.

Your primary responsibility will be to lead small development teams to deliver functioning, validated code leaning on your breadth and depth of domain expertise. You will lend depth and perspective through your increased focus on a specific technology.
Collaboration is crucial as you must be able to provide clear direction to your team while incorporating their feedback in order to align with the overall technical direction of the product team. Humble expertise will serve you well as you listen and observe the needs of your client in order to best apply your understanding.
Curiosity will drive you to understand why your team's check-in broke the build as well as to lend a hand in maintaining the pipeline or test suite. A desire to learn and grow will always be fed by those around you as you continue to expand your technical acumen across technologies and platforms.
You take pride in your work and take time to appreciate the contributions by your team to the software that you are building.
- Front-end modern web platforms using Angular.
- APIs and back end services built using emerging frameworks and architectural patterns including Java, .NET, Python, and different relational and non-relational databases.
- Hosting and application services provided by industry leading cloud providers like AWS.
- Operational efficiencies leveraging modern ecosystems and automated build and deployment pipelines.
- Collaborative build practices that allow our teams to be agile and responsive to our clients’ needs.
Hybrid/In office: We are hybrid but there are expectations that if your team leader or client requires you onsite that you are able to meet those expectations/requirements
Slalom is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For this position, the expected base salary pay range is $123,000 to $163,000.
In addition, there is potential for a 10% discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance. Actual compensation will depend upon individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
