Staff Software Engineer, Applications
Role summary
SmithRx is a Health-Tech company seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Applications to join their Drug Access team. This role focuses on backend architecture, designing, building, testing, and maintaining the company's product suite using languages like Golang, GraphQL, Node, and SQL. The engineer will collaborate with stakeholders, apply best practices, leverage AWS technologies, and resolve production issues. Responsibilities include mentoring junior team members, contributing to the technical roadmap, and exploring new technologies, including AI. The ideal candidate has 8-12 years of experience, proficiency in compiled languages (Go preferred), relational databases (PostgreSQL), API design, and cloud/DevOps tools (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with GenAI tools is a plus. This is a fully remote position.

Job Summary:
As a Staff Backend Software Engineer, you will play a key role in all stages of the engineering lifecycle—designing, building, testing, and maintaining the SmithRx product suite. You will champion best practices, coding standards, and large-scale system design while bringing a forward-thinking mindset to the team. We are looking for versatile, self-driven engineers who demonstrate leadership, ownership, and a passion for tackling new challenges.
This role is part of the Drug Access team within the Application Engineering organization, which owns and operates our backend data for managing first-party (1P) and third-party (3P) drug data. Success in this position requires a deep understanding of our systems, the ability to independently design interfaces and APIs, and close collaboration with frontend engineers and Product Managers to define features and requirements. Beyond coding and design, you will also contribute to initiatives that enhance the availability, performance, and scalability of our services. Engineers best suited for this role will be able to simplify complex business requirements into modular designs and code. To excel in this role, you will need to become an expert in our data schema and its interactions with our business use cases, supporting our mission to lower healthcare costs.
