Role summary

A Senior Reliability Test Engineer is sought for an enterprise datacenter SSD development team in San Jose. This role involves designing and automating validation frameworks, executing reliability and stress tests, and performing root-cause analysis for complex failures. The engineer will collaborate with NAND, FW, and SoC teams, and lead investigations into advanced solutions like Generative AI for test enhancement. A Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 5+ years of experience in SSD/storage/embedded systems QA and automation are required, with strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or Java.

About the Role Join our San Jose-based Design Center, where we focus on the cutting edge of enterprise datacenter SSD development. We are looking for a Senior Reliability Test Engineer to become a core member of our Reliability System Engineering team. You will play a critical role in ensuring our high-performance storage products meet the rigorous standards of today’s hyperscale and enterprise environments.

As a key contributor, you will not just execute tests—you will help design and automate the validation frameworks that define our product reliability. From deep-dive root-cause analysis to pioneering GenAI-driven test automation, your work will directly influence the quality and durability of products shipped to global data centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Validation: Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans and reports aligned with industry standards (JEDEC, OCP, NVMe, PCIe).
  • Automation Development: Design and scale automated test scripts and frameworks using Python (primary), Java, and C++.
  • Reliability & Stress Testing: Execute complex functional, endurance, and stress tests to maximize coverage across the SSD lifecycle.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with our internal NAND, FW, and SoC teams to debug issues and drive swift, effective solutions.
  • Defect Management: Analyze test results, log detailed defects in JIRA, and track them through resolution.
  • Innovation: Lead the investigation into modern solutions, including the use of Generative AI and Reinforcement Learning to enhance test coverage and automation efficiency.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Drive "Tiger Team" efforts for complex, intermittent system-level failures to identify architectural or firmware fixes.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in QA testing and test automation, with a dedicated focus on SSDs, enterprise storage, or embedded systems.
  • Programming: High proficiency in Python (preferred); experience with C/C++ or Java.
  • Technical Depth: Proven ability to independently drive validation cycles from early-stage firmware through mass production.
  • Problem Solving: Strong background in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for complex failure modes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Protocol Expertise: Deep understanding of SSD architecture, NVMe/SATA protocols, and PCIe link-level debugging.
  • Industry Standards: Familiarity with JEDEC, NVMe, and OCP storage specifications.
  • Reliability Knowledge: Understanding of life models, AFR, and MTBF concepts.
  • Hardware Tools: Experience with volume test systems (e.g., Flexstar, Neosem, Advantest) and protocol analyzers (e.g., Teledyne LeCroy).
  • Data Analysis: Experience using JMP or similar statistical tools for data analysis.
  • Advanced Tech: Direct experience utilizing Reinforcement Learning or Generative AI for test development or data analysis.

Pay: $60.00 - $70.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
