Role summary

SpaceX is seeking a Construction Project Manager specializing in MEP systems for its Rocket Development Facility in McGregor, Texas. This hands-on role involves leading the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of critical infrastructure, with a focus on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for aerospace and industrial projects. Responsibilities include managing contracts, resolving field conflicts, coordinating with utility providers, and ensuring safety compliance. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 3 years in construction project experience or 7 years in engineering/facilities management. Preferred skills include expertise in electrical power distribution, HVAC, plumbing, and relevant construction codes.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER, MEP

As a member of the construction projects team, you will work with elite engineers and project managers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and commission critical infrastructure for a variety of projects at SpaceX’s Rocket Development Facility in McGregor, Texas, as well as other SpaceX facilities. This hands-on role is responsible for the planning and execution of new facility construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects with a specialized focus on commercial and industrial mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. You will own projects from start to finish to support high-power rocket engine testing, test stand activation, and world-class industrial facilities that enable rapid development and iteration. This position is based in McGregor, TX.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the project team, consulting engineers, and contractors throughout the entire mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning process
  • Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, and reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial projects
  • Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
  • Coordinate with the electrical utility provider on design and engineering to ensure reliable power service to critical site infrastructure
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, fabricators, and internal stakeholders
  • Track and approve contractor invoicing
  • Ensure contractors adhere to site safety standards and OSHA requirements
  • Manage night shift and early morning contractors as project needs dictate
  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management with 3+ years of experience working in the field on construction projects, or 7+ years of equivalent professional experience in construction, engineering, or facilities management in lieu of a degree
  • PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Significant experience with electrical and power distribution systems (<600V AC), including 480V down to 120V and DC systems
  • Working knowledge of delta/wye transformers, building lighting systems, construction specifications, and facility grounding
  • Knowledge of HVAC operation and design principles, including refrigeration, chillers, boilers, and air-handling equipment
  • Experience with plumbing design and operation, including domestic water, wastewater, venting, and storm systems
  • Experience with critical power infrastructure, including UPS systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process design solutions with minimal impact to ongoing operations
  • Strong ability to manage priorities and multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Ability to quickly assess issues and support technicians with troubleshooting and repair
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, high-concentration environment with extended work hours and tight deadlines
  • Acute attention to detail and strong systems-thinking ability to anticipate and avoid problems
  • Experience using AutoCAD or Revit
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), ASHRAE standards, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and International Building Code (IBC)
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet)
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs. unassisted)
  • Exposure to extreme outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain)
  • Work in environments requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational requirements; flexibility required
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight/confined spaces
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Occasional travel may be required to support projects at other sites (up to 15%)
