Role summary

SpaceX is seeking a Build Specialist for Booster Structures Engineering to manage schedules, assets, and procedures for Booster integration vehicle checkouts. This role involves physically installing and testing electrical and propulsion systems to ensure reliable flight. Responsibilities include coordinating test equipment, overseeing GSE construction, communicating project status, implementing standard practices, designing tooling, and creating manufacturing documentation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience, project management skills, and the ability to organize and communicate effectively across teams. Basic qualifications include a high school diploma and 2+ years of technician experience in mechanical/fluid disciplines, with 1+ year of experience reading engineering drawings.

BUILD SPECIALIST (BOOSTER STRUCTURES ENGINEERING)

SpaceX is currently seeking a talented individual for a critical Build Specialist role to facilitate Booster integration vehicle checkouts. This team member will be responsible for managing schedules, assets, and procedures, as well as physically installing and testing various electrical and propulsion systems to ensure reliable Booster flight. This individual must have great hands-on experience, good project management skills, and ability to communicate and organize across internal and external partner teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate test equipment activations in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including operations engineering, production leadership, and tooling
  • Coordinate with contractors and oversee ground support equipment (GSE) construction and activation
  • Communicate project status, key milestones, and roadmaps to stakeholders through clear, timely updates
  • Implement standard practices, troubleshooting guides, and standard repair procedures
  • Design tooling for new and existing products to support rate production
  • Create high-quality work orders, engineering masters, and other manufacturing resource planning
  • Operate forklifts safely and material handling equipment to transport flight and GSE hardware efficiently, adhering to all safety protocols to prevent incidents
  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of technician experience in mechanical/fluid disciplines
  • 1+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Ability to solve complex manufacturing problems on schedule with little to no supervision as an individual or as a member of an integrated team
  • Understanding of spacecraft integration processes including avionics, propulsion systems, and mechanical integration
  • Knowledge of pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices
  • Experience with Siemens NX (UG), Teamcenter CAD, and PDM systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of technical documentation, engineering drawings, and schematics.
  • Professional experience testing and operating with or around hazardous systems (high pressure, high energy, hazardous gases/fluids, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret and troubleshoot basic test automation scripts
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
  • Stand: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Sit: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Push/Pull: Up to 50lbs. (unassisted) up to 1 hour per day
  • Overhead reach: Up to 1 hour per day
  • Walk: Up to 1 hour per day
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 25lbs. (unassisted) up to 1 hour per day
  • Climb (ladder/stairs): Up to 6 hours per day
  • Kneel/Crouch: Up to 1 hour per day
  • Upper body twist: Up to 1 hour per day
  • Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees up to 1 hour per day
  • Candidate must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500ft), in confined spaces, using an air purifying respirator, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description
  • Candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and/or physical to confirm these capabilities, which may include a medical history review
