Role summary
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a remote, individual contributor role focused on a critical customer-facing web platform. You will be responsible for stabilizing, improving, and evolving the platform by diagnosing issues, refactoring code, and making pragmatic technical decisions. The role involves designing and building Python-based backend services with Django/Flask, developing REST APIs, managing PostgreSQL databases, and delivering frontend features using React and Next.js. You will also handle bug resolution, code reviews, and production support. While not a people management role initially, you will contribute to hiring decisions and have opportunities for technical leadership.

Overview
We are looking for a
Senior Software Engineer
to take ownership of a
mission-critical, customer-facing web platform
and help stabilize, improve, and evolve it for long-term use.
This is a
hands-on senior individual contributor role
for an engineer who is comfortable inheriting an existing system, diagnosing structural issues, and deciding—based on sound technical judgment—whether to refactor, rebuild, or incrementally improve the platform.
You will work closely with non-technical leadership, collaborate with a small internal engineering team, and be trusted to make pragmatic technical decisions that move the product toward a stable launch and beyond.
Tasks
- Design, build, and maintain
Python-based backend services
using Django and/or Flask
Develop and extend
REST APIs
that support both internal and external product use cases
Analyze and improve
PostgreSQL database schemas
, queries, migrations, and data integrity
Deliver frontend features using
React and Next.js
, with modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Diagnose recurring bugs, address root causes, and reduce technical debt
Review and refactor existing code to improve reliability, readability, and maintainability
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and example-driven guidance
Support real users by helping investigate and resolve production issues when needed
This role is

people management on day one, but you will contribute to hiring decisions and may grow into greater technical leadership over time based on impact and execution.
Requirements
- Strong production experience with
Python
, especially
Django and/or Flask
- Proven experience designing and maintaining
RESTful APIs
- Deep working knowledge of
