Role summary

Stradley Ronon is seeking a senior Cloud, Data and Automation Engineer to modernize data architecture and deliver automation solutions. This role will support and integrate enterprise systems including document management, conflicts, HRIS, and CRM, with a focus on Microsoft Azure and SQL Server. Responsibilities include architecting cloud solutions, developing Power BI reports and Power Automate flows, optimizing SQL Server environments, and ensuring security and compliance. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of IT experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a law firm or professional services environment, and advanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (5+ years) and Microsoft Azure.

Position Overview

The Cloud, Data and Automation Engineer is a senior technical resource that implements and supports enterprise applications while modernizing data architecture and delivering robust automation solutions. This role is responsible for the administration, integration, and optimization of the Firm’s enterprise systems, including document management, conflicts, new business intake, records management, HRIS, client relationship management, and all related SQL and cloud-based platforms. This technical consulting role is expected to drive modernization initiatives, leverage advanced data and automation tools, and ensure the Firm’s technology stack meets the evolving needs of a leading AMLAW 200 firm.

Essential Functions:

Enterprise Cloud Systems Technical Leadership:

  • Support the operation, implementation, and integration of enterprise business applications including:

Document Management:
iManage (on-prem), SharePoint

Conflicts/New Business Intake:
Intapp Open, Intapp Conflicts

Records Management:
LegalKey, FiT, iCompli

HRIS:
UltiPro

CRM:
Nex

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for these platforms, leading integration and automation projects across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Build relationships with vendors through bi-annual business review meetings to understand product roadmaps and upgrade schedule.

Legal Cloud Systems Technical Ownership:

  • Support the operation, implementation, and integration of select legal applications including:

*Litera Suite, HighQ, DocuSign, Milana, Advologix and SimplyAgree*

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for these platforms, leading integration and automation projects across on-premises and Azure environments while acting as an escalation resource for technical issues.
  • Build relationships with vendors through bi-annual business review meetings to understand product roadmaps and upgrade schedule.

Cloud & Automation:

  • Architect and maintain solutions in Microsoft Azure, including Azure SQL.
  • Integrate cloud and on-premises systems using APIs and other modern methods.
  • Build and maintain PowerBI datasets, dashboards, and paginated reports; administer PowerBI Reporting Services (on-prem and cloud).
  • Develop and support Power Automate flows, including integrations with PowerBI, SharePoint, and third-party legal applications.
  • Drive adoption of low-code/no-code solutions to automate business processes and enhance reporting.

Advanced SQL & Data Engineering:

  • Design, administer, and optimize complex SQL Server environments (2005–2019+), including high-availability solutions (Replication, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, Availability Groups).
  • Develop and tune advanced T-SQL, stored procedures, and ETL processes.
  • Implement and support Azure data warehouse / data lake architecture.
  • Use Microsoft Purview to analyze data, identify risks and hidden value to support the firm’s data strategy.

Security, Compliance & Documentation:

  • Architect user access, roles, and permissions to safeguard business platforms and ensure compliance with legal industry standards.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and training materials for technical staff.
  • Ensure all assigned software is updated, maintained, and operational; document all changes and monitor performance post-implementation.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

  • Work closely with desktop analysts, systems engineers, project managers and key vendors to optimize technology and implement new solutions.
  • Analyze existing processes, identify dependencies, points of failure, and recommend improvements.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in legal IT and enterprise applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in information technology with at least 3 years supporting applications and databases in a law firm or professional services environment is required; experience working in a startup is considered a differentiator.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (5+ years), including database administration, monitoring, tuning, and development is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL, Logic Apps, Functions, Data Factory, etc.) is required.
  • Practical experience with PowerBI (including PowerBI Reporting Services), Power Automate and building Power Platform integrations is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on use of Microsoft Purview in IT operations is a differentiator.
  • Experience supporting and integrating legal vertical applications including:
  • iManage, Intapp Conflicts / NBI, LegalKEY, NEXL, Litera Compare / Metadact / CAM / DocXtools, HighQ, DocuSign, UltiPro, Advologix and Milana.
  • PowerShell scripting and other automation experience strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours as needed, including participation in scheduled maintenance.
  • Results-oriented, self-starter with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A consultative / collaborative approach to work is a differentiator.
