About The Role
We are seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact at an early-stage company by contributing to the core product development and shaping the company's culture and strategic direction. The ideal candidate will be comfortable stepping outside their comfort zone, wearing multiple hats, and taking ownership of complex projects. Strong experience in building web applications from scratch is essential, as this role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems that support our platform's growth and reliability. You will collaborate closely with product teams to define features, ensure technical excellence, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This position provides a unique chance to work in a fast-paced environment where innovation and initiative are highly valued.
Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience
• Proficiency in Python programming language
• Experience with Django framework preferred
• Strong track record of building and deploying web applications
• Familiarity with modern infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, and CircleCI (preferred but not mandatory)
• Understanding of modern software development practices including Gitflow, continuous integration, and peer code reviews
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to challenges

Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and develop the core components of Standard Metrics' platform as part of the engineering team
• Take full ownership of features from conception through deployment and ongoing support
• Implement bug fixes, improvements, and documentation to ensure high-quality deliverables
• Collaborate with the product team to define and scope new features aligned with company goals and values
• Participate actively in code reviews, team discussions, and technical planning sessions
• Contribute to the evolution of engineering best practices and development workflows
• Support and mentor junior team members when applicable
• Engage in continuous learning to stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies
