About The Role
As a Staff Data Engineer within the Marketing Applied Sciences organization at GM, you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing high-quality, scalable, and reusable data and analytics products that support applied analytics solutions and insights. Your primary responsibility will be to build and optimize data engineering pipelines, marketing data products, and AI/ML solutions, including large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and automation frameworks. You will own the enforcement of data and AI standards, ensure security and compliance, and contribute to enterprise-scale AI initiatives. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams such as product managers, data scientists, and engineers to develop innovative marketing solutions that enhance customer experiences and drive measurable business outcomes. You will also contribute to building and maintaining AI agents that integrate with enterprise data systems, third-party data providers, and marketing platforms, ensuring their operational excellence and continuous improvement. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, ML Engineering, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical field
- 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science, or related fields
- Experience building high-performance, scalable data and AI solutions
- Proficiency in Python and/or other object-oriented programming languages such as Java or C++
- Strong knowledge of SQL and distributed data processing frameworks like PySpark
- Experience with modern data platforms and tools such as Databricks, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, Kafka, or similar
- Hands-on experience with cloud architecture systems including Azure, AWS, or GCP
- Ability to communicate complex technical solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven track record of leading projects that integrate marketing, data science, and technology to achieve business goals
- Strong understanding of modern data architectures, pipelines, and AI/ML best practices, including LLMs and automation
Responsibilities
- Define, own, and enforce data and AI/ML standards, best practices, and industry guidelines across the Marketing Applied Sciences portfolio
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, services, and AI agents to support marketing analytics and automation initiatives
- Identify opportunities for optimization to enhance the performance, scalability, stability, and cost-efficiency of data platforms and workflows
- Manage data stewardship responsibilities including data quality, documentation, access controls, and responsible data use in collaboration with governance and privacy teams
- Design and evolve marketing and Ad Ops data infrastructure, including privacy-safe environments like data clean rooms for audience insights and measurement
- Develop robust data models, ingestion, and transformation workflows ensuring high data quality and discoverability for analytics and AI use cases
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement best practices, provide feedback, and improve data and AI system design
- Build and implement unit tests, data quality checks, logging, and observability mechanisms to ensure production readiness
- Maintain operational excellence by monitoring, troubleshooting, and enhancing data and ML pipelines and AI agents
- Integrate third-party data sources and marketing platforms via APIs to enrich data and insights
- Mentor junior team members and promote knowledge sharing within the organization
