Role summary

About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic team under the direction of the Data & BI lead. In this vital role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our data architecture and business intelligence capabilities. Your expertise will ensure the seamless flow, management, and utilization of data across our enterprise systems. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will gather data requirements, develop robust data pipelines, and contribute to our overarching data strategy. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, leveraging your technical skills to support organizational decision-making and operational efficiency. Please note that this role is exclusively for local candidates in Minneapolis/St. Paul and does not sponsor employment visas.
Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related IT field, or 5+ years of equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years of technical experience in designing, building, and supporting data warehouses and Lakehouse architectures
- At least 3 years of experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, and Azure Data Factory
- Proficiency in SQL, Spark SQL, and data pipelines with 3+ years of hands-on experience
- Expertise in data modeling, data mining, data lake housing, and semantic layer development
- Strong Power BI skills, including advanced Power Query and DAX
- Familiarity with D365 Financial and Operations, Project Operations, and Customer Experience data models (preferred)
- Deep understanding of relational database principles, data privacy laws, and data processing flowcharting techniques
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment with competing priorities
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute the software development life cycle (SDLC) for data warehouse projects and BI support activities
- Engage with Business Systems Analysts and stakeholders to gather and document functional and technical requirements
- Design, develop, test, and document BI systems, data pipelines, applications, and programs
- Create semantic layers, metadata, reports, and report definitions to support business insights
- Develop ETL design guidelines to ensure scalable and maintainable infrastructure
- Collaborate with technical teams to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies
- Plan capacity and resource expansion to support data warehouse scalability and performance
- Build strong relationships with application and infrastructure teams to understand data architecture and functionality
- Lead BI projects and strategies, coordinating efforts between business units and development teams
- Implement disaster recovery, data archiving policies, and redundant systems to ensure data integrity and availability
- Identify inefficiencies and gaps within current data warehouses, proposing solutions to uphold data standards
- Diagnose and resolve data access, performance, and security issues in data warehouse environments
