About The Role
The Borrow Data Science team is seeking a highly skilled Staff Data Scientist to support growth initiatives within our Personal Loans business. This role is pivotal in enhancing SoFi's data-driven decision-making capabilities, enabling the company to identify opportunities, optimize processes, and develop predictive models. You will utilize tools such as Snowflake, Airflow, dbt, and Sagemaker to build robust data pipelines, perform deep analytical dives, and develop machine learning models. As a technical leader, you will balance urgent requests with high-impact projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality insights and solutions to key stakeholders. Your expertise will help shape product strategies, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to revenue growth by translating complex data into actionable insights.
In this role, you will foster a culture of technical ownership, document your methodologies, and socialize your ideas across teams to maximize organizational impact. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, marketing, finance, risk, legal, and executive leadership. Your analytical skills will drive strategic decisions, support experimentation, and inform product development. Qualifications

  • Masters' or higher degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in data analysis, machine learning, or related roles
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python programming
  • Experience with data pipeline tools such as Airflow and dbt in Snowflake environment
  • Strong skills in data visualization tools like Tableau, Looker, or similar BI platforms
  • Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and their application to business problems
  • Experience deploying ML models at scale with monitoring and maintenance
  • Knowledge of A/B testing, causal inference, and statistical modeling techniques
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present complex analyses to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to work independently and proactively engage with stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail

  • Develop, implement, and refine machine learning models to address key business challenges
  • Build and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines and datasets for analysis and production use

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and develop data-driven solutions
  • Mentor and guide junior data scientists, promoting best practices and technical excellence
  • Create and deliver regular reports and presentations to stakeholders, translating technical findings into business context
  • Document methodologies, models, and processes to ensure transparency and reproducibility
  • Stay current with industry trends and continuously improve data science practices within the organization
