About The Role
As Whatnot continues to scale rapidly, data plays a crucial role in shaping product strategy and delivering exceptional user experiences for both buyers and sellers. We are seeking a talented Product Data Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Operations teams to generate insights, drive experimentation, and inform strategic decisions. Your work will directly influence product development, feature optimization, and marketplace performance, ensuring Whatnot remains at the forefront of live commerce innovation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for data-driven decision-making, strong analytical skills, and a proactive mindset to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Data Science, Decision Science, or Analytics within a product-focused organization
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience
- Proven expertise in applying statistical and analytical methods to real-world product challenges
- Advanced SQL skills and experience with modern data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift
- Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, modeling, and experimentation
- Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests, with a solid understanding of causal inference techniques
- Strong data visualization skills and familiarity with BI tools for creating interactive dashboards
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to diverse stakeholders
- Experience leading cross-functional projects and influencing product strategy through data insights
- Comfort working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a high degree of ownership
Responsibilities
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to product health, user engagement, and marketplace performance
- Analyze user behavior, product usage patterns, and marketplace dynamics to identify opportunities and prioritize features
- Translate complex data findings into actionable insights and strategic recommendations for product teams and leadership
- Partner with product managers and engineers to design, implement, and evaluate A/B tests and feature rollouts
- Develop frameworks for causal inference, impact measurement, and long-term product evaluation
- Build scalable data products, dashboards, data pipelines, and self-serve tools to empower teams across Whatnot
- Collaborate with engineering to improve data accessibility, ensure data quality, and support instrumentation for new features
- Advocate for a data-driven culture by promoting measurement best practices across the organization
- Communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences to influence product roadmaps and strategic decisions
- Serve as a trusted thought partner to product leads, helping shape the development, launch, and iteration of platform experiences
