About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Power BI Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role requires a professional with deep technical expertise in data engineering combined with exceptional data visualization skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for architecting robust, scalable data solutions and creating insightful, visually compelling dashboards that enable data-driven decision-making. The role involves direct interaction with end users to gather requirements, conduct testing, and facilitate smooth implementation of BI solutions. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, with a preference for candidates who can align with one of Legence’s office locations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a hands-on environment, taking ownership of the entire BI development lifecycle, from data pipeline creation to delivering executive-level dashboards.
Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with Power BI development (Desktop, Service, and Report Server)
• Expert proficiency in DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) and Power Query (M language)
• Strong SQL skills, including database design, query optimization, and performance tuning
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL principles
• Experience with Azure data services such as Azure SQL Database, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, or Fabric
• Deep knowledge of data modeling techniques and relationships (one-to-many, many-to-many, bi-directional)
• Understanding of statistical concepts and analytical methodologies
• Proven ability to create visually compelling dashboards and reports for executive audiences
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
• Experience with AI and automation in software engineering is a plus

Responsibilities

• Create sophisticated, visually engaging Power BI dashboards and reports that support strategic decision-making
• Develop advanced DAX calculations, measures, and calculated columns to meet complex analytical needs
• Design intuitive user interfaces with custom visuals, drill-through features, and interactive elements
• Implement dynamic report features such as bookmarks, parameters, and conditional formatting
• Build composite data models leveraging advanced features like aggregations, incremental refresh, and query folding
• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes using Power Query, Dataflows, and Azure Data Factory
• Develop and optimize data models utilizing star schema, snowflake schema, and other dimensional modeling techniques
• Manage data warehouses and data lakes using platforms such as Azure Synapse Analytics and SQL Server
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database functions for performance efficiency
• Establish data governance frameworks including data quality checks, validation rules, and documentation standards
• Configure and manage Power BI workspaces, deployment pipelines, and version control systems
• Implement row-level and object-level security to ensure data protection
• Monitor and optimize report performance through query tuning and data model refinement
• Integrate Power BI with various data sources including SQL databases, APIs, SharePoint, and cloud platforms
• Automate data refresh schedules and maintain gateway configurations to ensure data currency
