About The Role
The Data Scientist at Emory Healthcare will play a pivotal role in transforming healthcare data into actionable insights to enhance clinical outcomes and operational efficiency. This role involves developing predictive models, machine learning pipelines, and natural language processing solutions that utilize both structured and unstructured healthcare data. The Data Scientist will collaborate closely with clinical, operational, and technical teams to design and implement analytics solutions that address real-world healthcare challenges. The position also entails contributing to MLOps practices to ensure scalable and reliable deployment of models into production environments. This remote position requires candidates to reside in one of the specified states and offers an opportunity to impact patient care and organizational performance significantly.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare or data analytics
  • At least 2 years of experience working with payor companies or healthcare systems
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python, R, or SAS
  • Experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI applications
  • Experience working with relational databases and healthcare data sources (e.g., electronic health records, decision support systems)
  • Knowledge of decision support systems like StrataJazz, EPSi, and healthcare data standards such as HL7/FHIR
  • Understanding of HIPAA compliance, OMOP data models, and data privacy standards
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Experience in strategic planning, workflow optimization, and mentoring teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of advanced predictive models and experimentation frameworks to support clinical and operational decision-making
  • Design, build, and maintain end-to-end machine learning pipelines within a cloud-based environment
  • Develop and refine natural language processing (NLP) pipelines to extract structured information from unstructured clinical documentation
  • Mentor junior data scientists, review code, and ensure best practices in methodology and documentation
  • Manage domain-specific analytics solutions and foster strong stakeholder relationships
  • Apply statistical techniques to improve clinical workflows and operational processes
  • Ensure model governance, compliance, and documentation standards are maintained
  • Explore large healthcare datasets to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights
  • Create visualizations such as dashboards, charts, and graphs to communicate findings effectively to various audiences
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to build and validate predictive models and analytical solutions
  • Contribute to the advancement of MLOps practices for scalable model deployment
