About The Role
The Principal Data/AI Engineer at FUJIFILM Biotechnologies plays a pivotal role in shaping the technical strategy and architecture of enterprise-scale data and AI platforms. This position involves leading the design, development, and optimization of data pipelines, analytics, and AI-driven solutions that are critical to the company's mission. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical expert, guiding the organization in implementing best practices for data engineering, including modular pipeline design, version control, automated testing, and observability. They will also mentor junior engineers, promote Agile methodologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technology solutions with business objectives. The role demands a strategic thinker with deep expertise in cloud platforms, data modeling, AI/ML solutions, and regulatory compliance, particularly within the biotech and life sciences sectors.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, AI/ML Engineering, or related field
  • 12+ years of professional experience in data/software engineering, AI/ML engineering, or cloud platform engineering
  • Proven experience with Python and SQL
  • Extensive experience building and maintaining data pipelines using frameworks such as Airflow and dbt
  • Strong expertise in data modeling for analytics and AI use cases
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms including AWS and Azure
  • Experience delivering production-grade data solutions
  • Familiarity with biotech or life sciences systems and regulatory frameworks such as GxP and FDA
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) preferred
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Snowflake, AWS, Azure) preferred
  • Knowledge of modern AI technologies, including LLMs, embeddings, and vector databases
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and optimization skills for large-scale data systems
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and maintain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines on platforms such as Snowflake, AWS, and Azure
  • Design and implement ML/GenAI solutions utilizing managed cloud services and platforms
  • Establish and enforce standards for data quality, observability, lineage, and governance
  • Ensure seamless integration of biotech systems like MES, LIMS, SCADA, ERP, and QMS into centralized data platforms
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to develop data and AI strategies aligned with organizational goals
  • Enable advanced AI use cases, including feature stores, vector search, model serving, and continuous monitoring for bias and drift
  • Optimize storage, compute, caching, and workload orchestration to meet latency and throughput requirements
  • Partner with cybersecurity and compliance teams to adhere to GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and data privacy regulations
  • Lead design reviews, incident analysis, and cross-team architecture discussions
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies such as data mesh, real-time streaming, digital twins, and generative AI platforms, and introduce relevant innovations
