About The Role
The University of Guelph is seeking a highly motivated Data Analyst to join the Institutional Research and Planning division within the Government Reporting department. This temporary full-time position, from April 13, 2026, to April 13, 2027, is designed to support university-wide projects by providing comprehensive data analysis, reporting, and insights that inform strategic decision-making. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Data Reporting, the successful candidate will play a vital role in managing complex data sets related to enrollment, resources, admissions, programs, costs, and more. The role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work with various data systems to produce accurate, timely reports that comply with federal and provincial reporting standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a data professional to contribute to the university’s strategic initiatives and support its commitment to data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, data analysis, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least three years of relevant experience in data analysis, reporting, or a similar role
  • Proficiency in programming and querying languages such as SAS, R, and SQL
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Fabric (preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Knowledge of university data systems and sources, with the ability to integrate and analyze complex data sets
  • Experience in preparing detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support for university-wide projects by analyzing large and complex data sets related to enrollment, resources, programs, and finances
  • Manage data collection, validation, and quality assurance processes to ensure accuracy and reliability of reports
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations using PowerBI, Tableau, or Fabric to communicate insights effectively
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to support decision-making by faculties, departments, and committees
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial reporting standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with various university units to gather information, coordinate data collection efforts, and streamline reporting processes
  • Write macros, perform data queries, and conduct statistical analyses using SAS, R, and SQL to extract and manipulate data
  • Stay current with emerging data analysis techniques and tools to enhance reporting capabilities
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and exercise sound judgment in handling data and reporting tasks
