About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative AI professional to join our Enterprise AI organization at Humana. This role focuses on developing autonomous agent systems capable of managing complex, long-horizon goals in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in agent design, planning, and control, contributing to the creation of reliable, interpretable, and robust AI agents. You will work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams to develop mechanisms for goal setting, decomposition, and adaptive planning, ensuring alignment with safety and operational standards. Your work will directly impact the advancement of AI technologies that enhance healthcare delivery and operational efficiency, shaping the future of autonomous systems in real-world applications.
Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in research, ML engineering, or applied research roles, with a focus on AI solutions
  • 2+ years of experience leading the development of AI/ML systems
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data analysis/data mining tools
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as Pytorch, Jax, LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen
  • Experience working with high-performance, large-scale ML systems
  • Knowledge of language modeling with transformers
  • Experience with symbolic planning, causal reasoning, and model-based reinforcement learning
  • Familiarity with large-scale ETL processes

Responsibilities

  • Architect goal setting and goal decomposition mechanisms for autonomous agents operating in uncertain or open-ended environments
  • Design and implement dynamic planning systems, including hierarchical planning, curriculum learning, and self-refinement loops
  • Collaborate on memory, tool-use, and feedback-loop designs to enable multi-step, self-directed agent behaviors
  • Develop evaluation frameworks to ensure alignment with human intent, consistency, and progress toward long-term objectives
  • Prototype agents that interface with APIs, servers, search engines, databases, or real-world actuators to pursue goals safely and efficiently
  • Explore mechanisms for detecting and mitigating goal misalignment, looping behaviors, or undesirable emergent strategies
  • Work cross-functionally to integrate goal alignment with safety, operational reliability, and risk mitigation mechanisms
