About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will lead the development of scalable, maintainable enterprise applications that empower our life sciences customers to operate more efficiently and safely. Your leadership will be critical in shaping our technological landscape, mentoring engineering teams, and making strategic technical decisions. You will own entire feature lifecycles—from design and development to deployment and ongoing support—ensuring high-quality, robust solutions. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within Canada or the US, fostering a work environment that values productivity and work-life balance. As a key member of our engineering leadership, you will collaborate closely with product management and development teams to deliver innovative solutions that make a tangible impact on global health.
Qualifications

• Minimum 12+ years of proven software development experience, with a strong emphasis on Java development
• Extensive experience in developing high-scale enterprise SaaS cloud applications
• Proven track record of architecting and building high-volume, scalable products
• Hands-on development experience with open-source technologies including Java, Spring, MySQL, Gradle, Git, Jenkins, AspectJ, Messaging, and Solr/Lucene
• Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced, startup-like environments
• Strong mentorship skills with experience in developing engineering talent and fostering team growth
• High work ethic, integrity, and honesty aligned with Veeva’s values as a PBC
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Must have the unrestricted right to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role

Responsibilities

• Own all stages of feature development, from initial design and coding to deployment, production support, and maintenance
• Collaborate with product management and development teams to design and implement technical solutions that meet business needs
• Analyze complex problems rapidly, identify knowns and unknowns, and drive towards robust, scalable solutions
• Define, promote, and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance protocols
• Conduct comprehensive code reviews for engineers across all experience levels, providing constructive feedback and mentorship
• Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in engineering processes and team performance
• Mentor and develop engineering talent through structured guidance and knowledge sharing
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure Veeva remains at the forefront of SaaS innovation
• Participate in strategic planning and technical decision-making to influence the future direction of our products and platform
