About The Role
The Principal Data/AI Engineer at Fujifilm Biotechnologies is a strategic technical leader responsible for shaping and executing the architecture of enterprise-scale data and artificial intelligence platforms. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines and AI solutions that support mission-critical data products and analytics initiatives. You will serve as a technical expert, guiding the team in best practices for data engineering, including modular pipeline design, version control, automated testing, CI/CD, and observability. Your expertise will be instrumental in integrating diverse biotech systems such as MES, LIMS, SCADA, ERP, and QMS into a centralized data ecosystem, ensuring high data quality, security, and compliance with industry regulations like GxP and FDA standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, platform architects, and business stakeholders, to align technical solutions with strategic business objectives. Additionally, you will lead efforts to implement modern AI use cases, optimize system performance, and stay abreast of emerging technologies such as digital twins, real-time streaming, and generative AI platforms. Mentoring junior engineers and fostering an Agile environment will be key aspects of your leadership responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, AI/ML Engineering, or related field
- 12+ years of professional experience in data/software engineering, AI/ML engineering, or cloud platform engineering
- Proven expertise in Python and SQL
- Extensive experience building and maintaining data pipelines using frameworks like Airflow, dbt
- Strong knowledge of data modeling for analytics and AI applications
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
- Proven track record of delivering production-grade data solutions
- Familiarity with biotech or life sciences systems and regulatory compliance frameworks (GxP, FDA, EMA)
- Relevant industry certifications (preferred)
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) is a plus
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines on platforms such as Snowflake, AWS, and Azure
- Design and implement ML/GenAI solutions leveraging managed cloud services
- Establish standards for data quality, observability, and lineage, and ensure adherence across projects
- Integrate biotech systems (MES, LIMS, SCADA, ERP, QMS) into centralized data platforms
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data and AI initiatives with business goals
- Enable AI use cases including feature stores, vector search, model deployment, and continuous monitoring
- Optimize storage, compute, caching, and workload orchestration for performance and cost-efficiency
- Partner with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure regulatory adherence and data privacy
- Lead design reviews, incident analyses, and architecture forums to promote best practices
- Stay current with emerging technologies and introduce relevant innovations to the organization
- Mentor junior engineers and promote Agile methodologies for iterative delivery
