About The Role
The Lead Software Engineer at Very is a pivotal role responsible for providing technical leadership and ensuring the successful delivery of complex, full-stack projects across multiple client engagements. This individual operates with a high level of accountability, demonstrating expert knowledge in architecture, development, and delivery of scalable software solutions. The role requires a strong executive presence to instill confidence among major client stakeholders and internal teams, guiding technical strategy to align with business goals and measurable outcomes. The Lead Software Engineer will serve as a key technical architect, designing and implementing modern systems that span cloud infrastructure, backend, web frontend, and mobile platforms, primarily utilizing AWS and Azure environments. This role demands a hands-on approach, with the ability to lead by example through high-quality, maintainable code while mentoring junior engineers and fostering best practices. The position involves collaborating closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including hardware, data science, and design, to deliver end-to-end connected and intelligent product ecosystems. Success in this role involves delivering high-impact programs on time, elevating delivery standards, and supporting growth initiatives through technical excellence and strategic client engagement.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional software development experience
- 3+ years in a technical leadership role overseeing cross-functional engineering teams
- Proven success in delivering full-stack systems from concept to production
- Experience maintaining and scaling public-facing production systems
- Strong observability skills for detecting and troubleshooting production issues
- Solid understanding of backend-for-frontend patterns and experience with tanstack react-query and axios libraries
- Experience with feature-flag-driven rollouts, partial releases, and user segmentation strategies; LaunchDarkly experience is a plus
- Experience leading complex projects involving platform, backend, mobile, and frontend components
- Excellent client-facing communication and executive presentation skills
- Professional services or consulting experience preferred
- BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Primary residence in the continental US and US citizenship required
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture reviews to ensure technical integrity, security, and maintainability of projects
- Partner with Product Managers and Technical Leads to translate client needs into detailed technical plans and deliverables
- Contribute high-quality, production-ready code exemplifying best practices in implementation and testing
- Maintain adherence to Very’s standards for code quality, testing, and documentation across all projects
- Create and oversee automated testing strategies across all layers of the stack
- Develop and manage deployment pipelines, CI/CD workflows, logging, monitoring, and alerting systems
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks to ensure project health and success
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to improve overall code quality
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of engineering talent
- Represent Very in client meetings and industry events as a technical subject matter expert
- Mentor junior engineers on client programs, fostering their technical growth and project contributions

- Base salary ranging from USD $175,000 to $185,000 annually, commensurate with experience
