Role summary

Analytica is seeking a remote Data Scientist to support federal client projects in the Washington D.C. Metro area. This role involves applying advanced statistical programming, modeling, data visualization, data mining, and forecasting techniques to complex public sector problems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning, with experience developing scalable, production-ready solutions using tools like Python, R, SAS, and various NLP libraries. Responsibilities include data preprocessing, feature engineering, model development, validation, reporting, and visualization, with a focus on NLP use cases. Experience with transformer architectures, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Databricks), and version control (git/github) is required. Familiarity with Generative AI and Prompt Engineering is preferred. A Master's degree in a related field and a minimum of four years of experience are required, along with the ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance.

About The Role
Analytica is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team supporting long-term federal client projects in the Washington D.C. Metro area. This fully remote position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex public sector problems by applying advanced statistical programming, modeling, data visualization, data mining, and forecasting techniques. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning, with experience developing scalable, production-ready solutions. As a Data Scientist at Analytica, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to analyze challenging datasets, develop innovative models, and deliver actionable insights that support critical government missions. Your expertise will directly influence decision-making and policy formulation in a dynamic and impactful environment.
Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field; PhD preferred
  • Minimum of four years of experience in developing scalable NLP solutions using tools such as sci-kit learn, Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Spark NLP
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python, R, or SAS, with a focus on NLP use cases such as Document Summarization, Named Entity Recognition, Sentiment Analysis, and Topic Modeling
  • Experience with version control systems, particularly git/github
  • Hands-on experience leveraging transformer architectures (BERT, GPT-J, RoBERTa, T5) for NLP model development
  • Knowledge of open-source NLP packages like Gensim, SpaCy, or NLTK
  • Familiarity with Generative AI (GenAI), Prompt Engineering, and related emerging technologies
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Databricks, including services like Bedrock, Textract, and translation APIs
  • Experience with model validation, reporting, and justification of results
  • Ability to coordinate and maintain user stories within an agile development environment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets using Python, applying techniques such as stop word removal, stemming, lemmatization, and tokenization
  • Engineer features and evaluate attributes for NLP models, utilizing methods like TF-IDF, word2vec, GloVe, and FastText to identify key determinants within datasets
  • Select and develop classification, regression, neural network, and deep learning models tailored to specific business challenges
  • Investigate, validate, and report on model performance, providing clear justifications for modeling choices and results
  • Create compelling data visualizations to communicate insights, model outcomes, and their relevance to organizational objectives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate models into existing systems and workflows
  • Maintain version control and documentation of code and models using git/github
  • Stay updated with emerging NLP and AI technologies, incorporating innovative approaches into projects as appropriate
  • Support the development of documentation, user stories, and project deliverables in an agile environment
