About The Role
The Staff Software Engineer - DevOps/SRE at WellSky is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all stages of the software development lifecycle, utilizing a broad array of technologies and tools to develop impactful software solutions. This role involves designing, building, and optimizing comprehensive systems that prioritize end-user efficiency and experience. The engineer will lead efforts in system architecture, reliability, scalability, and performance, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, resilient, and maintainable solutions. Additionally, this position emphasizes innovation through the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies, including AI tools, to enhance team productivity and software capabilities. The role requires proactive incident management, monitoring, and continuous improvement to ensure system reliability and availability.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience
  • 8-12 years of relevant experience in software engineering or DevOps/SRE roles
  • Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or similar position
  • Strong expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Familiarity with observability and Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools such as New Relic and OpenTelemetry
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and architecture of major systems and services, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and maintainable in line with business needs
  • Collaborate with solution managers, engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders to define and prioritize technical requirements
  • Ensure the sustained quality and reliability of software solutions by acting as a go-to expert for resolving complex issues in development and production environments
  • Participate actively in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and mentor other engineers to enhance team capabilities
  • Drive technological innovation by evaluating and integrating new tools, methodologies, and AI capabilities to improve efficiency and performance
  • Ensure code meets functional and performance standards through rigorous testing, including automated unit and integration tests
  • Leverage AI tools and platforms to optimize decision-making, workflows, and data-driven outcomes
  • Manage incident response, lead system outage resolutions, and conduct post-incident reviews to prevent recurrence
  • Design, implement, and maintain monitoring and alerting systems using tools like New Relic, Grafana, and ELK stack
  • Work with various teams to build and maintain scalable, resilient infrastructure
  • Maintain system security and compliance in accordance with company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals
