About The Role
The Lead Data Analyst, Pharmacy, plays a pivotal role in driving data-driven decision-making within the pharmacy operations of CareFirst. This position is responsible for executing pharmacy business objectives through sophisticated data analysis, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals and overall vision. The individual in this role leads the design, development, and implementation of analytics solutions by defining data requirements, analytical approaches, and reporting processes. Serving as a subject matter expert, the Lead Data Analyst provides thought leadership on analytical methods, translating complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for pharmacy stakeholders, business leaders, and executive teams. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and effective communication to support operational efficiency, financial performance, and strategic initiatives within the pharmacy domain.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business, or a related field; or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in progressively responsible analytical or quantitative roles.
  • At least 5 years of experience in data analytics, including developing dashboards and executive reporting.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data modeling, data management, and data curation principles.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple stakeholders and leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with cloud architecture, particularly Azure and/or AWS, and understanding of native data components and use cases.
  • Proficiency in relational database theory, SQL, and experience with major RDBMS platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with analytics tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, and Big Data/NoSQL platforms.
  • Understanding of advanced analytics, AI/ML applications, and predictive analytics use cases.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to train and mentor others.
  • Proficiency with analytical tools such as SAS, Excel, and SQL.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain recurring reports, executive dashboards, and data presentations to support daily pharmacy operations, key milestones, and leadership decision-making.
  • Create clear narratives and visualizations that effectively communicate trends, operational performance, and insights derived from data analyses.
  • Interpret statistical and analytical outputs to help pharmacy leaders derive meaningful insights aligned with business goals.
  • Apply quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method approaches to answer business questions and inform operational and strategic decisions.
  • Develop hypotheses and research questions based on pharmacy business needs, defining scope and implementation roadmaps for analytics projects.
  • Establish and maintain analytic frameworks, data definitions, and governance methodologies to ensure consistency and trustworthiness in analytics outputs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand business goals, data requirements, and solution dependencies, ensuring alignment across teams.
  • Coordinate inputs from various departments such as Finance, Actuarial, Legal, and Compliance to deliver analytics solutions like segmentation, modeling, dashboards, and decision aids.
  • Support retrospective analyses, variance investigations, and performance reconciliation to enhance transparency and accountability in pharmacy initiatives.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced staff and lead matrixed teams to deliver high-quality analytics solutions.
